q-see application on virtual system

I run a virtual XP system on Ubuntu 9.10 Linux. This is only because the Q-see software does not run on Mozilla or on the Droid.
Their tech support is not very helpful and they say it wont run on Firefox or droid any time soon. So I did not even ask them about the VB stuff.

So i loaded virtualbox XP system and can see the application but the video wont come across.

Also I was trying to set up a CMS connection on a native XP and virtual XP system and that does not work either.

I was wondering if anyone out there has tried doing either of these things?

If I go to take a snapshot I do see a picture on the system.

Overall I am pleased with the hardware and cameras etc but the interface needs some work. No scroll bars and so I have to change my Laptop display to accommodate it or I do not see the button on the bottom of the screen

I should mention that I have posted to Linux sites as may be this is a port issue or something with a video driver but so far no luck. I posted here because I figured someone else may have tried this before.

What virtualization software are you using? There are also some modules in Xorg that might not be enable by default that could cause this. There are GLX modules, some overlay stuff, and other things that you might need.

I use virtualbox for mine, and I can play videos just fine in a guest XP install.

To me it sounds like the software might require DirectX, which VB does support. Can you verify Direct X is working ok on your virtual machine?

Directx does work. I can see another camera system that uses a different application.

I download the CMS sw and it works on a native xp session but when i try to use it on the VB xp system it does nto work.
I can connect to the DVR and set up the cameras but the video does not come across.

very odd

I didn't do anything special to make it work, it just worked. But I don't have the Q-see app to test with. Video works in a browser via flash, using quicktime player, and Windows Media Player.

Host OS is Ubuntu 9.10. Virtualbox version is the latest 3.0.x release. I would stay away from 3.1 for now.

Hmm I am running the brower and the local app and they both work on a native XP..
I wonder if I am missing something on the VB image?

I do have flash installed as I cna see other site. I think media player gets loaded by default. Not sure if thats really needed.

I am running ubuntu 9.10 and VB 3.1.2 from Sun not Ubuntu as there is no USB support in the OSE version.

I tried the older VB too and same issue.

Have you tried increasing the Video Memory available to the guest in VB and/or Enabling 3D acceleration? I think the default is only 12 MB so maybe that isn't enough.

Yes I tried that too and still did not work.

Thanx for the idea keep them coming :)

i don't believe q-see is activex based. they are a proprietary full software solution not web based. they also OEM. we went through this with them about 8 months ago. i don't see them supporting firefox anytime soon unless the OEM decides to do it. they don't control the development/R&D side. they are a front end for sales.
