Quick network patch panel question

Hey guys,

I'm in the process of cleaning up my home network and have installed a patch panel for all my cat5e cabling.

I have a couple of IP cams and access points that are POE. Do you guys typically patch your POE lines as well or run them straight to the POE router.

Just curious. Thanks

Every commercial data installation I have seen has a patch in the closet and a patch at the end equipment. You should be fine either way, patched or direct. If you want to save money, direct wired will be fine with RJ-45's crimped on the ends of the run.

I patch 'em just the same; I do phones the same way too for that matter.  I used to use different colored patch cables for the POE lines but since honestly it doesn't matter provided you're using standard 802.3af/at POE and not passive POE that just dumps power over the lines without any discretion, then it doesn't matter.  In fact nowadays most of my switches are POE capable on all ports.  Really makes life even easier.
