Rate-of-Rise Sensor Distance From Furnace

I'm installing Fixed temp (194 degree)/Rate-of-Rise combination fire sensors in the attic to detect an attic fire.  Unfortunately the instructions are a bit unclear on how and where to mount these.  My HVAC unit is natural gas and AC and mounted horizontally along the peak of the roof.  The tallest part of the ceiling is maybe 6 feet high.  Is it safe to mount the sensors maybe 3 feet to the left or right of the HVAC unit on the roof as it slops back down?   In other-words, is that a good distance to not trip with normal furnace operation, but still trip should a fire arise?  Has anyone ever had Rate-Of-Rise false alarms?

If you have 15 degrees/minute increase, you are going to trip. You have 900 square feet the detector can cover. You don't have to be on top of the devices or space you're trying to detect.

In a "roof" or triangle type scenario, the detector can be mounted anywhere where the hypotenuse to the opposite angle is 3'.
