RC2000 problems :-(

Hi Everyone,

I just purchased 12 RC2000 thermostats to replace my old, but working well rc-122 thermostats.

After installing 7 with no problems.   I got to the 8th and after installing I found the menu for thermostat address setting is missing.   I thought I must be loosing my mind.   So I went to one of the other thermostats that I had already installed and it had the menu.  I also noticed that on the thermostat with the missing address setup, it was also missing humidity.

I did a factory reset on the thermostat and nothing changed.

I then went thru the rest of the thermostats and found of the last 5 only one had the ability to set thermostat address and humidity.

I then went thru the house and I found two of the thermostats that I successfully set the address now are missing that menu choice (as well as humidity).

I already sent HAI / Levition a message, but they don't reply on weekends.

Also worth mentioning... The thermostats are all from the same batch.  The serial numbers are in sequence.  The problematic thermostats are mixed in the batch.

Thanks for any help.

Phil

Are these new, recent stock, as far as you know?  I think really old ones had a network enable jumper, but I don't think the newer ones do.

Wow, you bought a bunch!  Are they all going to be serial connected?

Hi Cobra,  Thanks for your post.

Yes, all new stock.   They were drop shipped from Leviton.   The serial numbers were all in sequence.  Some in the middle of the sequence worked too.

Yes, all connected to the Omni Pro II.   I use the Honeywell zone controller, and these thermostats for zone control of every area in the home.   Get better control of what I heat / cool.  Really helps to cut power costs.

Actually, the documentation still mentions the comm jumper (Figure 11) in the Instruction Guide.  I'm assuming you checked that these are installed?

I didn't think they affected the menu behavior, but I may be wrong.

Also, have you checked the ones behaving oddly on a power circuit by themselves with the serial connection disabled?  The Omnistat behaved oddly for me when I had power issues here.

Indeed I checked the jumper and it is on.

What is also strange is how two thermostats used to have the address and humidity and now that is missing.

I will have to see what HAI / Leviton says.

Here guessing that the current HAI firmware / serial bus may be cannot handle 12 thermostats.

Leviton fat fingered out the old Omnitouch 5.7 video pop up stuff revision or two back then fixed it.  I opened a ticket up but never did closure.  Just noticed that it worked after next firmware update.

or

a power issue as mentioned by cobra above.

Thinking the new thermostats work by AC or DC 20-30 Volts these days.

Thinking in the old HAI database a lightbulb is used to check for power issues.

Are the thermostats all using the same power supply?

I got a response from HAI / Leviton Tech Support.    The suggestion I got was to disconnect the RC2000 a few minutes and try again.

I disconnected the RC2000, waited 20 minutes.   Then reconnected.   After this both that were wired up returned to normal operation.   I then installed 3 more and those also operate normally now as well.

So problem solved.  I guess I got unlucky, but now I am all OK.

Thanks to HAI support for a quick response.

Just a minor bump on an old topic, about 2 weeks ago I noticed that the motion sensor on one of my RC-2000's stopped working.  That is, you wave your hand across the sensor on the stat and the backlight does not come on.  I wasn't particularly worried, not a feature I use on that particular stat.

About 2 days ago I noticed that the same stat was no longer reporting it's humidity level.  That's when I searched out the problem and found this old post which discussed missing setup menu items.  When I looked in the setup menu of that particular stat, I no longer had Thermostat Address or Communication Mode as menu selections.

Following the old post instructions, I removed the stat from it's sub-base for about an hour, and when I re-installed it, everything works fine.

Thermostat Firmware 1.05B-ZHA-V15.01

Hope the missing backlight sensor clue helps someone else.

I've noticed the backlight sensor seems fairly intermittent on my thermostat.  Sometimes it seems to work when you walk by, other times putting a hand in front of it and walking in front does nothing for a while.
