Hey there - I just came across the forum - it looks great.
I have a problem, which I'd believe would be very common, but 2 weeks of googling leaves me without any hope.
Our building has 3 units which were flipped rather nicely by the previous owner - however he must have had a bad day when he laid out the wall next to the door. There are 5 devices scattered like a Jinga puzzle (Alarm, 2 different light switches, thermostat, and a MONSTER intercom).
My buddy who owns a home automation system has informed me all of this can easily be integrated into numerous systems...for a hefty price. With the challenge to keep this under $300 I've decided to tackle it myself at a smaller scale - starting with the light switches and the intercom.
The dirt cheap Pacific 4 wire system 3404
I would LOVE to rip that unit and replace the station with something similar to the OnQ Room unit which lands in the light switch gang box:IC1004-WH.aspx
I would have to believe that some vendor would make a 4-wire retrofit piece with the OnQ footprint for the thousands of condo owners who hate the huge intercom stations. I realize that these are not Apples-Oranges (4 wire vs Ethernet, different backplanes...etc...) but I would like to hear if any vendor has a solution that can get me close.
Has anyone run across this before?
Any suggestions?
Please - google has run dry for ideas!! (I never thought I'd say that)
