RZC0P in can?

I am putting together an Elk system with Vizia RF component. I'll be using the RZC0P as the interface between the two.
In my mind, the RXC0P would have been perfect in the Elk Can as the other device on the J-box dual 110 outlet at the bottom (the other one being the Elk transformer)...
until I remember z-wave was wireless (hum...) and being inside a can was probably the worst location for a z-wave device.

Where does everybody put the RZC0P? Likely not in the cans. But where then? Do you run a cat5 to the nearest plug?
I know it's an odd question (any outlet would do), but it seemed so clean to have it inside the can, that I am not sure what other clean solution there may be.

Mine is currently sitting on a pile of DVDs and not plugged in at all... The mrs got tired of it turning lights off on her and resetting levels after her dimming attempts (pending feedback from elk in: http://www.cocoontech.com/index.php?showtopic=9507)

That said i have struggled with the same question.

1) I have two jboxes in my leviton can housing the Elk and right now only have the M1 and M1XEP warts in it. I actually had the old M1XZW in the can and never struggled with connectivity, but it was of course only one way.

2) If the jbox is the only concern, i have another can housing all my internet stuff and i ended up zip-tying a slim (non-surge) power strip to the can so i could get all my power.

3) Another option for me would be to use one of the remote 14" cans i have where power is available (though i'm sure most people try to wire centrally and don't have that problem.

4) You could also run a long serial cable between the M1XSP and the RZCOP's serial end to extend the distance to whereever you want it...

I'd like to hear what others are doing too though :)

I also unplugged mine from the Elk for the same reasons. But to answer your question I was very surprised when the RZC0P could communicate fine even when the can was closed.
