An alternative to the photo beam is a tip I was told by Martin - you can use a curtain sensor and mount it at whatever height you want. You can then blanket an entire room (or portion) but it will only cover at the height you choose.
I am confused. How does a "curtain" sensor differ from a normal PIR? I thought it just had a narrower horizontal sensing range. How would I be able to monitor everything at a given height?
What you say sounds like exactly what I need - motion sensing at 4' level and above - to avoid pets.
