Serially connect Denon 3805 troubles

Hi all...frustration has set in and I cannot figure this out. I am gonna see if someone here can most likely point out the obvious. I just got a 3805 off Ebay and it seems to work just fine. I want to serially connect to CQC but I cannot get it going. Here's what I tried.

1. I first attached it to my Comtrol 8 port PCI card, tried 2 different COMM ports.
2. I went through hyperterminal a (9600,8-N-1, Flow Off) and could not send any commands. I could see hyperterminal receive On/Off, Volume changes when I manually changed the 3805 but I could not send any commands (echo on and off)
3. I did try to connect to CQC to see if it would work anyway...I got Waiting to Connect (When I have it connected to hyperterminal, it changes to Waiting for Comm Resource).
4. I went and tried the PCs serial port through COMM 1 and it would not work either.
5. I have sifted through all the forums and could not find anything to resolve the issue.
6. I found someone using RS232 HEX tool so I tried that. I first used Serial Device monitor and got the HEX commands that correlated with the ASCII commands. So, using HEX I could change the MV. So, I can talk to it but not using ASCII. This was through COMM 1.

I know my COMM 1 works b/c I have used it to connect to my Aprilaire setup to test.

That's where I am stuck. I don't know if I am missing something in the COMM ports properties to allow it to send ASCII and not HEX. Any thoughts?

Unfortunately I will be away until Sunday to try anything but I wanted to get something going for when I get back to try.

This has been crossposted to the CQC Forum as well.

Thanks
Eric

so you can't get it to work using either CQC, HyperTerm? But you can get it to work not using ASCII using RS232 HEX? Dude, that's weird, cuz it's an ASCII protocol.

Don't know what happened...working on this since last night without any progress. I post to the forum...get some pizza and come back and it connected and stayed connected and I could send commands from my CQC template. Maybe pizza was the answer.

It is currently on COMM 1, I want to place on the Comtrol card but I will leave it alone until I get back.

I still have no idea what the issue was. HEX did work but now CQC can talk and receive. All is well...not understood but well.

Yea...I read that so many times last night. Maybe I just had to let it sit and connect...I just figured once it's connected it would start to work. Part of me wants to go back to hyperterminal and see if it works sending commands but it works in CQC now so why risk it.

Thanks

Do a reboot, and see how it behaves. You want to make sure everything works after a reboot anyways.
