Tell me it isn't so ....

If they are so worried about saving the remote's configuration then why did they make impossable to clone the stupid remote in the 1st place. If the USB adapter can save the master's configuration then it should be able to restore it. Then both ACT or the user's could have copied remote configurations and all would be much easier in an upgrade. Do they really think it's a threat to your home security that someone may copy your remote ?? In the 1st place they have to get their hand on them. Any trully secure system should not have critical access function on a remote anyway.

Sorry - I'm prolly way off topic but simple things like an upgrade path should have been thought of way before the 1st products went to prototype phase.

I received another reply for Act:

Mike,

Thank you again for your thoughts and suggestions. We will take them under advisement.

Thank You,
Phil K.

Uncle Phil is a good guy, but remember he is an employee, not the owner/boss. Many of us have learned a lot of X-10 technical stuff & advice from him.

Has anybody heard from Martin on this. What is his stance on this subject. I sent him a message a couple weeks ago asking the status and never heard back from him. I can fully understand him not wanting to do the free replacement/upgrade after the way that ACT/Homepro is acting.

Wow,

Looks like I got a little behind on this thread - sorry about that.

Brian's comments about the remote are correct. The current version of the remote on the shelf will work with the transmitters but not the thermostats. They are working on the coding for the thermostats. Hopefully it will be in in the next week or two - we'll see.

As far as the remote replacement, yes, ACT went back on what they told me about this. I will still honor it though for people that bought them from us.

Martin:

Thanks for the update. Will you let us know when the new newer remote becomes available. (the one that supports the tstat).

Also, will you be carrying the Leviton and intermatic (sp) line of Z-wave products. Do you have any insight on their remote design (if they are designing them).

The sooner this get cleared up the better. I have a gift card waiting to be spent at your store and I need more modules.

Is there a place to nominate the best business man in NA. You have my vote!!!

Thanks

Mike

Martin what would you do with our old remotes that we are sending back? I'd like to see you stay in business so please tell me you have a plan to get your money back for the remotes.

I really wish Act could come up with something better than nothing.

Mike,

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I plan on carrying other brands of Zwave stuff as soon as it's available. I lookd forward to when more players are in the game. My understanding is that the Leviton devices won't be out until May though.

Squintz,

Don't know, maybe start a bonfire.....

Martin,
EBay them. Many people that aren't upgrading to the latest switches can still use them just fine.

PS. Has anyone bought a gift certificate from you for me?

Never mind EBay, offer them at a deep discount for people who are making their first Z wave order.

Martin how about instead of a free trade it you charge $20 or so with trade in for the upgrade. Then you can sell the returned remotes as used remotes for people just starting and charge them a low price for the used remote. This way you get $20 from us and maybe $30 from the next buyer and then you wont be losing any money.

Id be willing to pay $20 for an upgrade as long as it was from you. I don't want to see your other prices go up just to cover the cost of this one remote.

Mine was purchased from Martin as a gift last April or May and I too would be more than willing to pay $20-$30 dollars for the replacement. Then again, I would also be willing to pay full price for ONE replacement if we could get some sort of assurance that we won't be buying new remotes every six months or so when a new device comes out.
I understand that this is new and evolving technology but the guys at ACT cannot have finished the remote design before it occured to them that they might want to build a thermostat and would need a remote that could control it. It all strikes me as terribly poor planning on their part.

Martin:

Do you have any update on the Remote replacement, trade-in, upgradefor a fee, etc plan. I know the new remotes are out but I do not know if you are waiting on a newer version (thermostats) before you announce how this is going to be handled.

Thanks

Mike
