UMI module on HAI

Thought i had it all worked out but back to being a newbie I was wrong
thought if I took a dry set of contacts mounted on the gate and sent as an input to the umi 
i could see status of weather or not the gate was closed so i could open or close and turn on driveway lights automatically 
but the Omni ii doesn't see the link change that I assigned tried different combos but no response Upstart sees the state change
Any ideas that might help 
tried naming UPB link 225 as Gate closed

Link 225 should be the first free link available.
Did you name it in the HLC or UPB scene area (or both)?
Which input terminals are you using?
How many HLC rooms do you have?

The UMI will only transmit the link(s) when something changes. Open to closed or vice versa.
It will only transmit the Gate Closed link when the gate closes.
You have to trigger off it when the link is transmitted.
Something like WHEN receive Link 225, THEN Gate Closed Flag ON.

Then you can check the condition of the flag at any time.

It isn't a fool proof way to monitor status because you can't interrogate it to determine status like you can a switch because it's a multi-channel device and the Omni can't do extended code.

If there is a better way to do this I'm open to suggestions  being a newbie and all my programming knowledge is primitive and simplistic in nature . And i can use all the help i can get. Thanks

Can the Omni see the link when it is transmitted?
If yes, then the hardware is working.

Search for UPB garage control.
There are several threads using a UMI for a garage door exactly the way you wAnt to use it for the gate.
