Universal Remote Control products

Is anyone on this forum knowledgeable about these product items and can give me some feedback? I was originally looking at the Harmony 990 when someone redirected me to this URC package. Basically I just want to be able to operate all of my A/V equipment in the living room, bedrooms, back porch, garage, etc through one single remote control or even better if there was an App for my iPhone to do this. Thanks in advance.

Do you plan to program the URC device yourself? From my understanding, URC software availability is fairly limited to URC dealers, but nothing is impossible.

I am not sure this is the case any longer. I had no problems getting the software for my MX900 I purchase fairly recently. Hopefully URC takes the opportunity (thanks to Pronto) and re-engages the DIY users.

Definitely check with SurfRemote.com for good prices and service on URC remotes.

My opinion is the the software is pretty easy to use, but it does take some tinkering to get what you want. I ultimately chose the MX900 because I did want to eat batteries up like some of the remotes with the more snazzy screens. The MX900 has way more capability than I need. I do wish the lcd screen was wider than long, so you could have longer words.

I had no trouble getting the software from my dealer, some dealers won't give it to you and some might only give it to you if you let them program the remote, you just need to ask before handing over money.

I live in So. California so I buy from Surf remote, I don't know if it is still the case but when I bought my MX-980 the dealers could only sell within a 200 mile radius of their business.

To the O.P., I can't tell you if the iPhone apps are going to meet your needs or not, but the MX-980 and MRF-350 have worked great for me, the problem for me with iPhone apps is you have to look at the remote to use it. There are a number of iPhone apps that work with Global Cache products that would do what you want but I have no experience with them.
