Using an iLock with an HA system

Hi guys,
I'm setting up a keyless entry system and I've decided to make it indepedent of my HA system so that there is no chance of being locked out of my own home.
The system will be using a car battery for power, which will be continuously charged when it's not full. That way I can still gain access should there be a power failiure. It will be comprised of the iLock ( http://www.cc-concepts.com/products/ilock/ ), a door buzzer, a linear actuator that will open and close the door, and a linear actuator to latch/unlatch a security bolt. I know I'm going overboard, but I'm having a little fun with this project.

I'd like to know if anyone here has any experience with the iLock. The documentation says that the device pulses 1 of seven outputs depending on which of the keys in memory is detected. Even though the system will be independent, I would like to have it work with my HA system as well by telling it which key was used. What would be the best way to use this pulsed output to communicate with my software (Girder by Promixis - http://promixis.com/ )?

I also have an iLock system but have only bench tested it at this stage ....I do intend to eventually integrate it with my HA Controller (Homevision)........I have connected the outputs of the iLock to one of my pcbs to change its signals to open collector as shown in the link ....

You would need to connect it some serial or usb i/o device which your HA software supports...
The pulsed outputs can be either 1 second or 10 seconds (from memory) ...

Wow... that's quite the setup you have there! I'm hoping to keep mine a little more simple than that though. Right now I'm thinking about using an EZIO8SA ( http://www.smarthome.com/31273p.html ) coupled with a few relays to prevent overload damage, unless there is a way of hooking it directly to a cheaper usb or serial device.

I looked at the ilock link .Um. I dont get it. How does it actually lock/unlock the door? I dont see anything that looks like a latch that would hold a door. what am I missing?

Looking at the pictures you would probably need an electrified unlocking device as an extra. The OP mentioned a security bolt in his post.

I personally don't like bolts due to potential issues when an emergency comes up and you have to leave. I would use a frame mounted strike so that you always have free egress with a lever or some other mechanical only device.

Both door strikes and bolt locks would work, as long as they are activated by 12v DC. I plan on setting off a series of devices using relays. The entire project will cost me +/- $800, but will include it's own battery back-up, recharger and actuators to unbolt and open the door (for when I have my hands full of groceries or I'm carrying my bike). I'm only starting the build next month because of the costs involved and the amount of time it will take to do it properly. I'll keep you guys informed.

I am trying to do a similar project with my ELK M1. I want to use my existing GE key fob for the M1 to activate a deadbolt on the house's back door. My thoughts have been to use an Insteon relay http://www.smarthome.com/31274.html with the relay contacts soldered to the key fob for one of the Morning locks http://www.nokey.com/remcondeadlo.html . This way I could program an ELK or Insteon rule to open the door with RF.

What I would really like is a combination code lock like this: http://www.smarthome.com/5183n.html with RF also. Anybody know of one?

Anyone know of a better way to do all this?
