Vehicle detection

Cluster?  Do you mean Cheaper?

Sorry, Cliste.  Spelling correction got me.

In the post I did, I mentioned that you'll need a replacement chip in the receiver unit.  If you email them when you order it, they will provide the correct chip for you.  Details are in my post.

+1 on Cartell, however there are competitors for them in Mier and Dakota alert. Very simple and bulletproof, assuming you don't have cable issues (recommend conduit always)

I've been using the CheaperRFID stuff for a couple of years now and am happy with it. I added a battery holder that holds 2 - CR123 batteries and that gives me acceptable battery life without having to tap into the vehicle's electrical system.

Thank you pete c for the ebay link. Can't seem to find cliste. Sites I do find are broken. Cartell does look nice. Anybody install a car probe as a remodel? I have concrete surrounding my garage in all directions. I can't figure out a discrete way to wire a prob without breaking concrete or having the wire exposed. I am insistent that all my installs are discrete.

I dunno, I think I would try the StickNFind if you had a way to receive Bluetooth to your system first (you mentioned that in your OP).

BSR, any negatives to RFID? (Don't currently use RFID so I appreciate any info regarding short comings). Yes, I do have 2 pc running 24x7 at home for automation/work. I really want to run the BT on a win 2008 (WHS 2011) machine, but have had issues with all hardware tried thus far. My latest, possibly failed, hardware purchase HERE. Running into the same issue with that machine trying to run Kinect drivers to demo the Castle system. I tried a test of vm virtualbox, it would solve my usb devices issues, but it is just too slow! Grr!

I don't have any of those RFID devices, though I've read where people were having signal drop outs over on other forums.  I guess I was just thinking that BT would be a lot simpler and cheaper to interface with IF you had a receiver already working with your system. ;)

Yup; here I use three receivers and two applications to read the transmitters.  Others users of said devices use two transmitters in each vehicle.

Personally I had issues with bluetooth and MS OS's in the early days never getting it right except for windows mobile.  That is me though and might be just a personal thing.

I also had an issue with one of two vehicles (same MFG) having a sticky bluetooth reciever where I had to have a firmware upgrade on the receiver even after the MFG said that there was nothing wrong with the car (3 dead batteries later in a span of 12 months when the vehicle was new).  I guess though in a way it was nice to be able to use my car BT stuff with the phone some 4 houses away from the vehicle.

Yup forgot to mention I did actually play with radio stuff on my phone firmware...but I still do not think that caused the sticky BT reciever thing in the one vehicle..

I have Resolution Products driveway sensor installed (http://cocoontech.com/forums/topic/21494-resolution-products-wireless-driveway-sensor-review/)
for quite some time. I was concerned about weather and batteries. It’s been very cold and the device still works great. It’s nice to know ahead of time
that someone is entering driveway. I wish that Resolution would figure out a way to integrate RFID into the sensor, so the notification could be more personalized.

I have also tested the carpc's wireless connectivity to the house AP and that too can be utilized.

I utilize the set up for convenience but still worry about a false positive (rare these days) so its not tied life safety stuff.

For the underground/under cement chases I doubled up on the PVC landscaping piping when it was installed using mostly 1.5" pipes for some cash with an on the side deal.  I hung around the day of installation buying the guys lunch and asking them to let me try their sprinkler line installation machines.  The installers did under the walks and berms in literally minutes with their equipment.  I was totally impressed with the magic.

I did this a couple of years before I started to utilize it.  It is run in a type of fan shaped out from exterior points to distal edges of the property.  Some runs are about 200 feet.  I left pulls in all of the chases.  IE: my brick mailbox has four PVC pipes going to it.  This is LV mostly wiring.  The pvc pipes run thru the cement base of the mailbox which is maybe 5 foot deep; very solid base and much cement.

Or go the other way: Instead of having your home system detect when a vehicle arrives, have the vehicle tell your HA system its home. If you have an Android smartphone its pretty straight forward using Tasker.

This works for vehicle stuff.  But it's nice to be able to put the RFID tags on trash cans to be alerted on garbage night if your garbage is still in the garage.  As for the drops... you will get them.  I have set up timers and counters so when signal is lost, there is a buffer before something happens.

you guys must not be married the same way I'm married. My wife is more than happy to remind me, even if its midnight. RFID has nothing on WifeID.
