Whatchamacallit Thingy?

I am looking to buy some of that metallic cable armor that is used for the wire leads on garage door contacts. I want to sleeve a couple pairs of wires.

I have Googled for "cable armor", "wire sleeve", and whatever else I could think to call it. I can't find it.

Anybody know what it is called? Or better yet, where to find it?

Are you talking about "flexible metal conduit"? If so, you can find it at Lowe's.

Whenever I have needed short sections of that stuff I just bought the replacement handset cords made for public phones and then pulled my own wire through it. I don't remember where I got it from though... maybe Mike Sanders or Ablecomm.

If you're going to use it for magnetic contacts on a garage door... why not just buy the contacts that come with the armored cable already.

They work on a wider gap than normal door/window sensors so won't be as fiddly to setup.

Here's a couple models that I use depending on application (one mounts on floor, one mounts on the track). Don't know anything about the vendors... first links that popped up with Google.

The first link is what I use... from homecontrols.com (they're a great vendor). I like that they mount way up high rather than down on the ground.

That other sensor type does look useful but many of use have used the second type and mounted above the door as well. And the conduit just runs right up into the attic. See here.

Wow - wish I'd seen that post before I got mine - that's even cleaner! I haven't finished wiring mine in - I'm tempted to order those instead!

No, not looking for door contacts. I just need the flexible metal conduit to protect some sensor wires that are exposed.

It looks like Delikon has what I need, but I can't find any place that sells it. And I don't need a 100 meter coil - only about 5 feet.

It looks like the GE 1980 might just do it. Thank you alarmguy!
