Whatever Happened to ELK M1G Outputs 4, 5, 6?

I'm preparing to install my panel and my wife asked, "why do we need all those parts?" I explained a bit about inputs and outputs, and then I thought ... we have inputs 1 .. 3 (for siren, voice and (in my case) the WSV), and 7 through 16. But 4, 5, and 6 are skipped -- why is that? I haven't looked in ElkRM to see if those inputs are visible.

They are basically reserved for use with the Listen In System.

Its not entirely clear why that is but the text from the manual is:

Outputs 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16 are low current, positive (+) voltage only, for driving LEDs, relays, etc. Outputs 4,
5, and 6 ARE NOT available from the main board. They can only be accessed with a data bus Output expander set to
address 1. This expander will replicate main board outputs 7 thru 16, while also including outputs 4, 5, and 6.

perhaps "Spanky" will clarify

They (outputs 4, 5, 6) are basically reserved for use with the Listen In System.

I knew 7, 8, and 9 were consumed by the TWI/TWA systems (to enable each of three microphone zones). I didn't see anything telling me that outputs 4, 5, and 6 were also. Interesting ...

Maybe I am mistaken then but I thought it was 4 5 6 for the Listen In. The other possibility was the ELK was designed to be backwards compatible to the Moose and there may be a reason there.

Spanky answered this question here.

for ease of read Spank's answer is below:

The real answer is a long story that goes back many years on why there is no outputs 4,5,6.

The M1 was designed to be plug compatible with the old Moose Products Z1100's J16 connector. The J16 connector only had 10 outputs, therefore to flow into the next output expander, we started at output 7 going up to output 16.

The timers exist for outputs 4,5,and 6, just not the physical output connection.
