I'd suggest you try an interface first, see what you would do to improve it etc. You can get CQC on a 30 day trial, and your programming experience would help if you wanted to build custom drivers and such. Honestly, I couldn't imagine the amount of troubleshooting you'd have to do, considering even when I create a rule there are always instances that I forget to add until all of the sudden it doesn't work. It's nice to have a community of people with the a similar experience as you to refer to. But then again, my skill set is from a programmer.
