WiFi Thermostats Vulnerable

Hmm, I don't have any Linux/Unix based systems... other than a VM that I rarely use. On the other hand, almost everyone has a thermostat, and I often see posts from members here looking for a new one, with it's preferred communication protocol being WiFi. YMMV.

It will give the Unix-like people something to do. They should love it 'cause they don't want a boring "user system" anyway.

Maybe a big virus problem will stop the last bragging right the Linux users are using for a while? Maybe this could unify some of the Linux users into an actually supported platform without the cryptic and secret command structure moat around their ivory castles?

Not sure what to make of the last part (smileys hint at humor) but I agree with the brag part.  Luckily I'm not one of those folks. B)

The bash bug is huge! I have a number of devices with *nix in my home. I have devices I've fixed (one I recompiled), I have devices I can't (Connect by TCP hub, an old OpenWRT AP) and I have embedded devices I have no idea about or knowledge of (TV?, Tivo, my cable modem has Linux? and I've seen abandoned WINce devices that became a problem). The Thermostat is a nasty problem, the others equally so. The business with the cloud is going to make things more interesting, especially the devices that only work with the cloud.
