wireless contact closure

I am working on a couple of projects that are difficult to hardwire in, but that require that a contact be closed, such as by a relay.

Are there any battery powered devices that listen for a wireless signal (IR or RF) and then close a contact in response? Seems like there would be something like that.

Otherwise there are lots of ways to trigger a relay -

• using any of the lighting protocols (X10, Insteon, UPB, Z-Wave)
• http://cocoontech.com/portal/articles/tutorials/home-automation/490-how-to-integrate-your-cars-homelink-buttons-into-your-ha-system - that can work with just about any contact closure and garage door or homelinke remote
• cai webcontrol board - if you have network access
• GlobalCache iTach - and you can control via an iPhone or other home automation software

The list goes on - take a look at these and see if any suit your needs.

Or try this RF relay http://www.ebay.com/...=item45f2dc1fb3. It's available with one or more channels and a variety or remotes with different ranges.

I bought a couple ot them with matching remotes, and I use them much like you would use a doorbell type push button in the garage but you don't have to be present at the button so you get remote control. I get better range (I bought long distance remotes) than my old Genie clone, and I hacked one of the matching remotes so I can send commands to close the garage door via the Elk M1 (see BraveSirRobbin's tutorial on "How to automate a garage door using its wireless remote").

You could do the same for other applications requiring a relay type contact closure.
