I have 2 Elk M1 Gold systems at different locations. The company that put one of them in mounted a wireless glassbreak in an entranceway but can't get it tocommunicate with the recever which is only 15 feet away through 2 walls (wood studs and drywall). They say they have compatible harware. It's hard to get a look at it the way they have it mounted. I will take the parts down to see what models they are when I get back there, but they are saying it is from reflection by the sheet metal ducting and the other metal items in the mechanical room- boiler, fan coil, HRV, etc. I have called a BS on that as my old x-10 Eagle motion sensors could transmit out of there with no problem.
In the other application, the (fired) contractor cut the wires to the proposed location of multiple doors sensors, the garage door , as well as the ones to the proposed keypad in the garage. I don't want to dig through drywall to try to find the ends, if thast is at all possible, or splice them to new wires. On three of the doors I will need surface mounted sensors. 2 of them could work with an internal sensor.
Which leads me to the question about the applicability of different solutions to the problems.
Are there any features of the GE or Honeywell devices that would suit a particular application? Is one better at ,say, glassbreak than the other?
What about the wireless ELK keypad? Is there more than one?
Keyfobs?
Motion sensors?
I guess I am looking for the lowdown on the best wireless solutions ELK ( or others, for that matter!) has to offer.
BTW, I am running HAL/Cinemar with a complete UPB solution at one site, and a HAL/Cinemar hybrid x10/UPB at the other. Each site has its own dedicated computer.
