X10 to UPB or Insteon Transition

Just moved into a new house and I have over 20 X10 SwitchLinc keypads and switches. I need a few more and trying to find out what is my best option at today's technology.

I'll be getting a HAI security system installed in which I'm hoping to use HAI for ligthing automation. I used to have Homeseer 1.7 but I'm trying to do everything with HAI this time. HAI has support for X10 and UPB. I was told if I want to use UPB, I'll have to replace all X10 switches, is this true?

Since I'll need just few more switches, I was thinking Insteon. Are all the Insteon switches backward compatiblie with X10? Including their keypads?

I'd appreciate your advise.

HAI is really geared towards UPB and that might be the better option for you with that system. Maybe there is somebody here who is mixing UPB and X10 on an HAI system? htsource would not really have to replace all his X10 stuff would he?

I switched from X10 to UPB and will never look back. :)

FALSE. Replace what you want when you want. The HAI has two seperate interfaces, X10 and UPB on board. Now running insteon at the same time, not sure about that.

I am not sure about that one, I believe the answer to be no, there are a few that are not, but please dont quote me!

That's good information, according to "one" installer (not the same one I'm going with), he said I can only have either one, but not both at the same time - signal collision I guess? Otherwise, I can get the HAI UPB module and have both running until the SwitchLincs are phased out.

I can't seem to locate any UPB keypads similar to what SwitchLinc has offered.

Thanks again.

Are you talking about a Keypadlinc, a lighted multibutton keypad? If so, both HAI and PCS make them in 6 or 8 button. SAI makes multi style faceplates, but the are not lighted.

I went through AutomatedOutlet and found the HAI UPB keypads.

Yes, I'm talking about the Keypadlinc, and I have a lot of them for each room for multi-control. I like the new custom etched keypadlinc, looks nice.

Thank you for your info.

Keep in mind that the KeypadLinc can control a load. I don't believe PCS makes one that controls a load, but apparently Simply Automated does.
