**XEP - System did not respond, Connection may have been terminated and gets disconnected.....

Alright did little googling and now using port 587 for aol. And what you know it works. Does not like port 465.Any issues using 587?
So why would port 25 work for a while and completely stop. I know you are at the mercy of the ISP.

I'm on Comcast and my port 25 access was blocked starting 3/1/13. They wanted to close that hole.

video321. So what port are you using? Mine stopped working on 3/4/13.

Switched over to 587 and added authentication info.
This is a perfect example whey I receive a test text message every day.

The XEP is a piece of crap...  An expensive piece of crap at that.  I had it working with a 12 year old linux laptop hooked into the serial port and socat listening on a port, and it worked way better.

I still use the XEP because I don't want to have to run a full machine to get network access to the M1.  But my M1 hasn't sent an email alert for months.  Everything is configured correctly, and nothing is being blocked by my ISP.  It does this every once in awhile.  Usually I just reboot it, and it starts working again.  It seems to me the XEP runs vxworks, so that probably explains it.

The XEP is no doubt temperamental. I have to power the m1g and XEP down after any update on RP. I can change something in RP and send a test email and it will work fine but not the rules. After hard power cycle it starts working fine and sends SMS for closing and openings.
I also save a master copy of a known database. This way I can revert to it. Also anytime I open a known database I also make sure I send it from RP to XEP.

It's working fine without the power cycle.  You just need to disconnect ELK RP2.  Only the test messages work with RP2 connected.

Heh, I have someone come and let my dog out almost every weekday and I get a text message when the person disarms/arms the Elk. Works well for me... my ISP is also Comcast.

video321 ... I tried port 587 but still not working. I'm wondering what am I missing.

I set it as the following:

server: smtp.comcast.net
port: 587
username: (my comcast account without @comcast.net)
password: (my password)

Everytime I hit "Test" button (I tried about a dozen times), my RP connection will get dropped ... and I heard click click that sounds like XEP was rebooting.

I'll have to check this when at home, but I believe I used @comcast.net.
Also, you need to disconnect from RP for emails to work. I have a "send test email" button on my HA app on my phone.

Did a couple of things which solved the issue.

First, I discovered that the M1XEP has defaulted to its default IP address (192.168.0.251). How did I discover this? Using "Find Me" button on RP.

Second, I changed my laptop IP to 192.168.0.250 to match this M1XEP default IP address (so I can connect using RP). Once changed, I can now get connected to M1XEP.

Third, once connected, I changed the static IP address to what it was. I also changed SMTP server to smtp.comcast.net ; port to 587 ; username to [email protected] & my password. I finished this stage by pressing RP->M1 button.

Fourth, for testing, I didn't use the "Test" button from Email tab. Rather, I setup a new rule that will send an email every 30 seconds. Saved. Send to control.

At this stage email is flowing every 30 seconds. Once I'm satisfied that it is working as it should, I deleted this rule.

Hope this will help others who also facing the same problem.
