Zigbee Omnistat2 communication error

I have two HAI zigbee Omnistat2s that have been working flawlessly for the past 2 years. Both are running firmware 1.05b. About 1 month ago one of the Omnistat2 started giving me a communication error. The zigbee PIM showed 100% signal to both thermostats and there were no other recent system changes.

Today I unenrolled the Omnistat2 giving me errors and re-enrolled. It seems to be working fine now. I did note that the zigbee address was different than previously. Anyone have any ideas why I may have been getting errors before? I thought I had a hardware issue but now I think it was some sort of software issue.

Do you just have the ZIM and two thermostats?  You might have a marginal signal condition, so the network tried to reconfigure and for whatever reason, it didn't go well.  If no other Zigbee things, I would try to add one or two more.  Like you could add this Zigbee repeater..http://smartenit.com/product/zbre/
Or even some GE Link Zigbee bulbs, which I've seen for $10.  (The Omni Pro II can control them, by the way. Don't use the Dim command, use the Goto Level command if you want to dim them.)

Zigbee works best with lots of Zigbee. You can't have too many.

Also, its normal for the address to change every time you re-pair it with the ZIM.

Ano, in addition to the 2 thermostats I have one door lock and 2 light bulbs, all devices are within about a 25 foot radius so wouldn’t think signal strength would be an issue. The funny thing is the ZIM showed a strong 100% signal so not sure why the communication error popped up.

ZIM firmware isn't the best, and you can't usually believe what it says. Light bulbs are good repeaters if they are always powered. Locks aren't repeaters at all, and usually need a line-powered Zigbee device near them to work best.

I think in 6 or 7 years I did have to reset an Omnistat2 once. Probably more likely an HAI/Leviton firmware problem more than a Zigbee problem.
