    Irrigation + elk

Also outputs/relays here. 15 zones (and one zone to turn on the irrigation pump) on a M1XOVR/M1RB. Works like a champ. Very nice to adjust the start/run times with the custom settings and just run a macro on the ekeypad software.

ELK M1RB and RS-485 data bus

I just wanted to chime in my desire as well. Nothing isolates ligtning better than fiber.

    BIG Home Automation Project 2011

Many ways to skin the cat. If you want to roll your own light control, great. My post was simply to state that when the c-bus does a "reset" the communication time is not an issue. Controlling the house via the Elk and Jason's iPhone app has work very well for the last two years. There is...

    BIG Home Automation Project 2011

Startup issue? I have 90 C-bus units connected at the house with the Elk/Ness interface and it works great for the last two years. We've lost power twice in the last two years, and never even noticed any lighting issues. C-bus and the Elk/Ness interface is rock solid.

    Elk M1G and Thunderstorm

Thanks for the replies. I was wondering about the network surge protectors, but they don't seem to offer any more protection. I guess the best option is to order "backup" units and hope for the best over the summer. The proposed "steel cage around the house" got a very low WAF.

    Elk M1G and Thunderstorm

No phone line connected, no wires leaving the house, and power on a surge protector. That's why it's such a puzzle. I'm no Electrical Engineer, but can a near miss near the house "jump" to the LV wiring?

    Elk M1G and Thunderstorm

Last week, in the middle of the night, a thunderstorm caused the power to flicker and the Elk M1G alarm to sound. Both the ElkM1XSP and Aprilaire 8811 seemed to get fried. There are no entries in the M1 log. The Elk is connected to surge protector, and from what I understand, is powered from...

    New guy from Upstate NY

Brian, Welcome. Best advice that I ever heard was "You won't have regrets for unused wire in the wall, but you will have regrets if you don't have the wire in the wall". Even if you run just one extra Cat5e or Cat6, you will find uses for it later. Ex-Rochesterian here in NC...Isn't it...

    Ekeypad pro

I've been using it everyday since Sept 2009. Great app, it made the quick launch with email, phone and Maps. On the last trip, I forgot to turn down the heat. No problem, on the way to the airport, it took about 30 seconds to activate the vacation mode setting. On the way back, activate the...

Wire run to light switches...now what?

Glenn, I went through the same process as you and ended up with the clipsal system. It's a central system where all of the power for the lights (or controlled outlets) are wired back to a central location. Each switch is connected to a low voltage (LV) line which communicates the commands...

Square D Clipsal as an alternate to Colorado vNet

I worked with Clipsal in 2007 to do a DIY install, and since then, they have directed me to a distributor for "parts" which has been no problem. The clipsal tool kit is VERY easy to learn and work with and the interface with the ELK is awesome. Jeez, looking at Fleetz photos, I gotta go and...

    DJK New Construction

I'm finally getting to trim out after 2 years! The Aprilaire thermostats are interfaced to the Elk M1G and working great. Smokes and reversing circuit in and working. I also have the Clipsal lights tied into the Elk with the C-bus interface, which is also working great. Nuvo Grand Concerto is...

    DJK New Construction

Sorry, I've been remiss in keeping this updated. Elk M1 is connected to the aprilaire thermostats and the clipsal lighting system and is doing a GREAT job. Nuvo sound system is awesome and I'm eagerly awaiting the update to the Elk to be able to control it as well. I'm running the Ekeypad Pro...

Best setup + software + server combo for Elk + Iphone?

Once you start, you'll want to be able to control your lights and HVAC and sound also. The eKaypad Pro software is addictive :)

    Smoke Install problems

SOLUTION: A ESL405-01 (24v) was in the box of a ESL4050-03 (12v). The actual model is printed on the board. Replacing the 01 with an 03 made the whole thing work. I connected the common of output 3 to the +12v power supply to the smokes, and the normally closed output 3 to the +12v for the...
