SmartHome Lamplinc's dying, need replacement suggestions

The newer insteon stuff has gotten more reliable, and SH is honoring their warranties. For SW you could use the FREE InHomFre, or if you need more power, the not-expensive and wonderfully-powerful-and-reliable Powerhome. It all still takes a little patience, but i find things a LOT less...

    Cheap controllable relays?

what about an A/C relay (w/socket from Rat shack $11), plus an appliance module. Takes a little soldering (and you also have to buy a quik-plug, $0.69) but they work great for me /j relay: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.js...rentPage=search socket...

    Automating Water Heater?

how about the fact that if you are turning it off only for hours, it takes more energy to get it back to temp than to maintain it at temp?

Do I have to replace Switchlinc with Insteon?

I think a lot depends on how clean your base wiring is. If you have a clean setup, you may be able to tolerate a lot of insteon. but if you have some background noise, for whatever reason, some insteon can push your X-10 into the unreliable zone /j

Do I have to replace Switchlinc with Insteon?

So only if I have a non *Linc X-10 setup and start introducing Insteon will I see problems with the remaining X-10? Do you know if there is any locality to this? /j

    Recommend X-10 house controller?

can you be more specific (which Insteon)? also - is the Insteon stuff pricey (and overkill for my application?) if I punt that requirement what does that open up to me? I envision a system where all my keypad controllers trigger macros, and all modules are actually always turned on/off ONLY...

    Recommend X-10 house controller?

Hi - My house runs off a CM11A W/Activehome 1.42, nad has been successfully doing so for 6 years (before that, a CP290 for over a decade). - I have 19 modules and 20 macros, and a HCA02-10E repeater. It probably works right 99.5% of the time, but that 0.5% is an annoyance. Modules trigger...
