Low cost touchscreen with decent performance?

There are hundreds of inexpensive 7" Android touch screens available.  Here's a good list. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_st_popularity-rank?keywords=android+touch+screen+tablets&qid=1401756016&rh=n%3A172282%2Ck%3Aandroid+touch+screen+tablets&sort=popularity-rank   The last generation of the...

    Just starting out

What's this 40 devices remark?  The Z-Troller will work with 256 devices.  The beauty of using HomeSeer is you can use Z-Wave, Insteon, X10, UPB, etc all at the same time so you can experiment with the different protocols and use the best devices that each protocol offers.

    Developer friendly camera DVR systems?

Guys, My old AVS8x8 has died and now I can't switch my cameras. I "think" I wan't to go ahead and upgrade to a DVR camera system but I would like one that has the abilty to write an aspx interface to the camera to get individual camera feeds and be able to switch between the cameras. Do most...

    Thermostat logging

I'm not sure if your automation software has this ability but I use HomeSeer and have it log each time my stats run. A long time ago I used an X10 door and window sensor tied to a cardboard flap in my air return. When the fan is running the flap rises and turns on the door and window sensor...

    Rate My Automated Doorbell Invention!

I like the idea but I'm confused as to how it works. Does the unit have a camera and this is how you know who's at the door? What if you do not have your phone with you. Will it still ring a bell? Is there two way communication? Also does this device have a motion detector to turn itself on?

Waiting for the school bus cam

A long time ago one HomeSeer user mounted one of the X10 cameras in the woods and powered it with a battery and a solar charger. He used a cantenna to direct the signal back to the receiver. The X10 cameras use very little power so maybe a derivative of this could work.

    To wifi thermostat or not?

HomeSeer has a WIFI thermostat plugin that works really well. It was developed around the Filtrete 3M-50 (aka CT-50), Radio Thermostat CT-30, Radio Thermostat CT-80 and the author is asking if anyone wants any new stats added.

Do I Really Need Elk M1?

I control everything you mentioned using HomeSeer. When a room on the front of the house (south facing wall) gets above 78 degrees (monitored by one-wire temp sensors) I shut my blinds automatically. I've interfaced my Davis weather station to my HomeSeer PC which allows for all kinds of...

    New from Houston, Texas

Yes a PC is required if you want to use a software package. My house wasn't prewired either so I chose to do nearly everything wirelessly. My first thought would be to setup your garage door up first to be controller with Z-Wave like this: http://board.homeseer.com/showthread.php?t=153372...

Do it yourself and save a ton. I would recommend downloading one of the software packages like HomeSeer and try a 30 day trial. Many of use use these types of packages to integrate our camers, lights, weather stations, security systems all into one interface. Check it out, it's fun and...

Home automation vs. dedicated security system

CoolJoe nailed it. I would add to the mix a software app like HomeSeer which will allow you to integrate all the parts and have remote control of the security system as well as the cameras and lighting.
