Hello,

I'm new to this site and would like to know if anyone out there is using HouseLinc to run their Insteon home?

I currently am using another software package but want to take advantage of wireless and most importantly, the 7 inch touch screen that'a available for HouseLinc.

Any comments, good or bad, would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott

I tried it a while ago. I was using Powerhome at the time and houselinc was too buggy for me. I since have moved on to a Universal Devices ISY-99 device so that no PC is needed and power consumption is kept to a minimum. It is by far the best controller (IMHO) on the market for insteon devices. I don't know how it would integrate with the 7" touch screen you are referring to but I would also suggest that you use as many "off the shelf" devices as you can. What touch screen are you referring to?

Edit:

Also, The level support I have received from Universal Devices is rewriting the book on customer service.

I don't work for them and I am not affiliated with them in any way. Nor do I moderate their forums :-).

HouseLinc 2 is a great interface to manage and control your Insteon network. Keep in mind that it does require a computer to be left on to execute any programs. Whereas, the ISY-99i controller does not and also consumes very little power when operating. Also, the ISY does NOT support the touch screen tablet you're speaking of.

Also, you will find that this interface is limited in what it can do, and what it can report back with. Case in point it can not interact with the Insteon thermostat on some level which was discussed in the SH forum.

@Gatchel: I am also currently using PowerHome for a rather large installation (a few hundred devices). There are many events/conditions that have to happen that revolve around security so I've always been leery of moving away from PowerHome but I think that PH is falling behind.

Now I am also dealing with a failing Stargate controller and feel it may be time to start from scratch but that will be a monumental task I believe...

I'll repeat the post about ISY. I love it and I love the customer support. And I believe it was like 5 or so watts that it uses.

As far as I know, the only things that can be run with ISY as far as touch screens are ipads/iphones/android tablets/phones.
