BANNED! From AVSforum forever.

Well I got booted and that sucks. I saw some posts about folks looking for some Klipsch speakers and I contacted them as I have access those speakers.

I had NO IDEA it was against AVAforum policy and was banned after sending PM's to a few people, most of whom were VERY appreciative by the way. I guess the policy is no unsolicited PM. While I can see where that would make sense to keep sleazy sales people from bombarding the sight, it doesnt make sense if someone is actually looking for something and they get a PM from someone that has it.

Bummer too coz I like the site for the most part although alot seem to get away with bickering which I think is more harmful than letting someone know you have what they are looking for.

Anyone know if their policy is steadfast and I have no chance of getting back on the site?

how interesting - i get unsolicited PMs there about sales 1x/quarter, but then again I'm quite fine with hitting the delete button.

Did you only have a few posts?

Sounds strange. I don't spend any time there but you probably want to talk to one of the mods and explain the situation.

It sounds strange though as if they were looking for those speakers were they really unsolicited pm's?

Just rejoin on a different computer with a different username. IP address is the normal way to keep up with members.

IVB, I guess they view them as unsolicited since they didnt ask me to pm them. I thought I was doing a favor, LOL. But rules are there for a reason. Interesting to hear others send PM's with no problems. Its not like I was hurting anyone and those that were interested in the speakers remain interested. Seems like a forum is a good place for those with an interest in something to meet those with the means to fulfill their interest. Yes, IVB, I didnt have many posts so maybe they viewed that as someone who is just spamming. Oh yes, they said I was spamming, LOL. Now that was is way off base.

Mike, I looked for a way to contact someone but came up empty handed. No big deal. I feel the same as you and didnt really feel it was unsolicited since the thread was showing an interest in a product. If I show an interest in something I would hope to get PM's.

Snickster, welcome to the board. Yes, looks like what I will have to do is rejoin on different system.

Collin, but rebooting wont change my IP, right? You idea sounds easiest and I would like to find a way to make that work.

Hi Ranger-

I think the correct way to do it on AVS is to post in the thread something like

"I have access to these products. PM me for more info."

I know I've seen that type of thing before.

mde, in hindsight I sure see that now. You are 100% correct. And if I had it to do all over again,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I'm grappling with these issues now as I start to get my forums going. I don't think I will be as hard nosed as AVS, but I guess things could change.

Seems as though you could ask forgiveness though. It seems unreasonable to not give you another chance. It was your first "infraction," as it were :o

Maybe you could send them a list of all the great deals their members will be missing out on if they keep you banned.... Well, it was just an idea. :o

Keep in mind that the owner's of AVSForum sell AV products. That is one of the reasons that they take such a strong stance on posting competitive pricing info or guiding people to other sources.

I'm so proud of you, Tuck! I participate at AVS on a VERY limited basis. I personally think it's as big a dump as Moab, UT and about half as entertaining...I would dig getting banned by those snotty pukes.

1st off I don't like unsolicited PMs/Emails I don't send em and I damn sure won't buy from someone thats sends them to me.

That said a permaban isn't the solution either, a staff member should have just given you warning and pointed you to the posted rules.

This is kinda a general thing buy ads if you want to advertise on someone elses website, otherwise let people seek you out.

It should, but this depends on your ISP. Worst case leave the router and modem unplugged overnight. Hopefully someone else will get your current IP.

Also flush your cookies and cache, I know my BB will just ban your new IP too if you have a banned cookie.

I would watch the company you make that statement in, I know many many who travel there annually (I try to). Also it's an excellent place to hide a body! :o

Heck, I don't mind saying it around anyone. I was through twice in the last week. There is no doubt that the surrounding area is spectacular. The town? A flippin' dump. Filthy dirty. Flea bag. Rotten. The town is a a dump.

There I said it...
