CocoonTech CES 2009 Exclusive Updates:

CocoonTech visited the nDigitus Technologies booth while at CES 2009.

They were showing a dual boot hardware solution. This product is a module that fits inside a 5.25" bay in your computer and has a simple toggle switch with two LED's on either side. You can switch from one SATA drive to another with this switch and select which drive you will boot off of. This enables 'dual boot' capability without using any software.

What is nice about this hardware solution is when you are 'switched' to one drive, the other is completely invisible to the booted operating system. This is great in a variety of circumstances, especially if your kids use your computer. You can have the kids boot off of one drive, and have your system on the other. Also a lot of our members like to 'experiment' with a test setup, especially when trying a new version of their favorite home automation software. You can now easily do this without changing any of your hardware interface options/ports by a simple throw of a switch!

You can select the alternate operating system switch while running, then the computer will switch to that other selected drive after a computer restart.

This box is compatible with SATA drives and requires only a 4-Pin ATX floppy drive connector for power. Both black and white face plates are also included.

This product will be out in the second quarter of this year and will retail for approximately $99. This isn't a bad price when you compare other software dual boot solutions that require messy partitioning (and also do not provide the unique 'isolation' of the unselected drive like this hardware solution).

A switched RAID solution will be offered in the fourth quarter of this year and will enable switching of various RAID configurations (say one option is a two disk RAID 0 while the other is a multi disk RAID 5).

Please visit nDigitus Technologies' website for additional information on this great unique product!
