CLEVELAND…Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation (NYSE:ETN) announces a money-saving solution for the home. Eaton has developed the Home Heartbeat™ home awareness system with an innovative Water Shut-Off Valve, enabling consumers to monitor and receive status updates on leaking or burst pipes in the home.

The Home Heartbeatâ„¢ Water Shut-Off Valve automatically interrupts the main water supply line to the home in the event that a major leak is detected, from a burst pipe to a leaky toilet. With the easy to install Home Heartbeat system, families will not only save money from serious water damage costs to their homes, but will also have `peace of mind' knowing their home is safe.

According to State Farm Insurance Companies:
  • Every year it is estimated that water losses cause about $4 billion in damage to property in the U.S. (Industry wide estimate for United States excluding flood losses)
  • Over 75% of water losses involve leaks from plumbing, appliances or fixtures; in many cases, extensive water damage can be minimized or prevented with the installation of a water leak detection system.
  • In many cases, a home is a person's single largest investment. Home awareness helps to protect that investment by allowing the homeowner to monitor the activities in their home and become more involved in home safety and loss prevention activities.
"Water loss is a major concern of homeowners but with preventative measures, much of the worry or second guessing can be avoided," said Javier Piraneque, Home Heartbeatâ„¢ Product Manager. "Eaton's Automatic Water Shut-off Valve technology is the perfect complement to Home Heartbeatâ„¢. Homeowners have total control over water-related issues and `peace of mind' when it comes to their single largest investment."

The Water Shut-off Valve is also an effective tool when it comes to slow leaks. According to the American Water Works Association, if US households installed water saving features, such as the

Home Heartbeat's Water Shut-Off Valve, it would save an estimated 5.4 gallons per day, or $11.3 million per day.
Home Heartbeatâ„¢ (http://www.homeheartbeat.com) is an "out-of-the-box," wireless, plug-and-use home awareness product to remotely monitor safety, security, and comfort issues in the home, providing homeowners with `peace of mind.' The system routinely provides updates (via a key fob, email, or text message) as it monitors home appliances, temperature, sump pumps, and the opening and closing of doors and windows. Home Heartbeatâ„¢ is ZigBeeâ„¢ ready.
