Credit card from from VIP TUNE

Sure looks funny all the people in this message group with the same false credit charges. Home automation looks like a possible. Have you used your card at SmartHome. I use my card very seldom and when I noticed this group with a over normal reply with the VIP Tune charge, I looked at my back statements. Behold a purchase from SmartHome home automation products.

Do all of you buy with the card that a false purchase appeared, also buy home automation products from SmartHome?

Citibank also has what they call "Virtual Account Numbers". Same one-time use number concept.

Bank of America now has a similar feature through their on line banking service. You can limit the time it is active and is only good for one merchant. I am going to use it from now on (after I cancel and get a card reissued) as I got hit with this too on 16 June. I only ever use the one card but Smarthome and Amazon.com are the only places that keep the number in their database (AFAIK).

Oh well, live and learn.

A bunch of people also had amazon.com as a common link, so I am thinking there was some sort of security breach at a payment processor, instead of a single store being responsible.

Hi. I'm Grayson Peddie and I got hit by a charge from VIP-Tune Limassol. I'm hearing impaired and my mom helped me call BoA to get the charge off (not comfortable with using a phone as I tend to have speech problem)... I thought it is the survey, but I don't know... I once shop at Amazon and SmartHome for Insteon home automation. I may have used eMusic but I've cancelled it last month since some of the songs are not original...

I don't know how this happen, since I don't think there's a common connection... *sigh* ;)

Not sure if Amazon has both of my cards on file. I do know Smarthome does. Not saying it is them; as I may have other merchants with it also. Just one thought.

I am surprised this hasn't happened yet to someone who was already using those unique code generators, it would make it easy to figure out where it happened.

That is the point, "stuff" like this doesn't happen to us :)
My virtual account numbers can only be used by one merchant, which is usually the intended merchant, unless the thief is quicker than the merchant. If a different merchant tried to use the virtual account number, even if it had money or time left on it, it would be rejected.

I figured credit card companies would monitor these 1time use numbers to check for fraudulent behavior.

I bet they watch them closely - but they are not about to tell us how often it is attempted and we don't even know. I suspect that is true of cards in general as well....

I was also hit by the $29.99 charge but hadn't thought to post it here as I thought it was an isolated incident. This must be a huge scam for sooo many here to be hit.

It would be interesting to compare statements to determine if there was a common vendor or on-line verifier amongst all the people here that reported the fradulent charge.
