Drive way sensor - proximity to street

I have been looking at driveway sensors Cartell and Sure Action. The Cartell states that the sensor should be 35 feet from the street for traffic less then 35 mph. Cartell also has a sensor that can be within 10 feet.

I would like to put the sensor as close to the street as possible. I will be connecting it to HAI Omnipro II. I am interested in sensing when a car enters the driveway.

Does anyone have any comments, recommendations or experience?

Hi Paul,
At my own house I am running an OmniPro II with the Cartell CT-2B control unit with the Short Driveway probe on 200' of cable.
I believe that the probe is placed 12 feet from the road, parallel to the driveway and I have never had a false alert.
I recommend this unit to everyone and my wife loves it. When we are in the basement or another remote location in the house that cannot see the driveway the voice announcements over the keypads is great.
Someone pulls into the driveway and you are already standing there waiting for them.

I use a Cartel CP-2. My driveway is hard to explain, but let me try: You pull up and if you continue straight you can park near the basement or you can turn about 90 degrees to the right and head up to the front door and garage (about 75' ahead). I put my CP-2 between the basement parking and the bend up, and it doesn't always pick up the house cleaner when she parks near the basement. It's less than 35' for sure, I'd put it at about 25' or less. I don't know if driving slower (when you're parking) makes a difference or not. It's a great sensor though, I've had no problems (once I figured out I accidentally broke part of the wire at one point).

Thanks for the comments.

The Cartell documents do state that speed matters. The faster a car/truck is moving the further the sensor needs to be. Cartell recommends 35 feet if traffic is moving less then 35 mph and 50 ft away if traffic is moving greater the 35 mph.

The Cartell CT-2B control unit with the Short Driveway probe on 100' of cable may do the trick.

Anyone know if you still have to continue to use shielded wire once the wire leaves the ground and enters the home? I'm wondering if I can get a shorter length of wire attached to the probe, and just extend it to the length I need once it enters the inside of the house... I'm wondering if the shielding has more to do with protecting the wire from lightning when it's outside or if it's integral to protecting from EMF interference, causing false alerts.
