Hooked up the Elk930 to the M1G and not getting any reponse. Not sure it is hooked up correctly. The Doorbell had wiring running between the drywall and framing so I could not trace the wires that way. The doorbell unit has 3 wires coming in to it. Went in to the attic and found 6 wires coming out. Thought I had spliced the wire going to the door bell but the reading I get is 14V and then drops to 5V when the button is pressed. And 31mA and down to 16mA when button pressed. If I tie into the other wire I get no voltage or ampurage change, but the doorbell will not work if disconnected. What is wrong here? How can I figure out which wires to tie in to?

The ELK 930 was designed for a standard doorbell transformer which is about 16VAC. If you have an electronic door bell, it could be putting out lower voltage and current. The ELK930 senses an increase in current flow when you press the button and triggers the output.
Check to see if you have a transformer somewhere powering the doorbell.

Finally had time to work on it again. Got it to work, sort of. If I just press the doorbell like normal then I get nothing. But if I hold the doorbell button down then it works. So the unit is not detecting the quick change from a momentary button press, which is what most people do. How do I get this to work properly? I need help.

I'm not 100% sure, but have you tried setting the zone to a fast loop response? Maybe that will help detect the very quick doorbell button press?

I've had my ELK-930 for probably 6+ months, but finally got around to installing it this evening; my attic was nice and cool. Anyhow, upon initial connection and configuration I wasn't seeing an expected response either; I had programmed a phantom output to turn on for 5 seconds when the doorbell switch was pressed. Once I changed it to a fast loop response, it began working just fine.
