Elk Firmware 5.3.8 & Wireless

I hate to get too far behind, but it looks like 5.3.0 is the furthest I can go without getting a different wireless receiver. Currently I have an M1XRF2G which is no longer supported.

Anyone have an opinion regarding the upgrade to an M1XRFEG? I don't know the models of my current Fob's or switches without research. Any way they will just "work" and reprogram OK with the new receiver?

I'm in exactly the same boat, but I though 5.2.10 was the latest that would work?

I can't find a 5.3.0 on the Elk (M1 Owners) website.

I must admit that I was relieved to find out that the M1XRFEG was, at least, an option because when I originally saw the caution I thought it mean I would have to replace all my sensors with the two way variety to get to 5.3.8.

You are probably right - I was going by what I currently have installed - I'm sure it was downloaded via the ELKRP software, not from the ELK site. I'll recheck that.
So - it sounds like the sensors would work ok with the newer receiver.

Double checked the firmware - I am indeed running 5.3.0, It was installed on 20140726, It was upgraded it from 5.2.10. It got downloaded via the RP software.
You are right - looking at the ELK site, the version jumps from 5.2.10 to 5.3.8. I have had zero problems with the 5.30 wonder why the removed it.

I went ahead and ordered the M1XRFEG.

Usually, unless a bug is found and addressed, and noted in the SPAR's for the FW, updating isn't really necessary and should be viewed as an as-needed basis. Even Elk says that.

There's a bunch of things that haven't been addressed or fixed in years, so FW really isn't the be-all end-all it is.

Remember, these aren't like PC's or other items that require constant patching.

Understood - I am well aware. I don't mind spending the money. If nothing else, for the ability to move forward.

Personally, I'm waiting until either a huge breakthrough occurs on a revised panel goes out. I haven't seen too many items addressed in the most recent FW's released and $100 for a new receiver just for a FW that doesn't do much, if anything, other than fixes that probably don't apply to 90% of the installs out there.....

Just my view with multiple M1's and EZ8's out there. Haven't really had to update many since they came out. XEP and some related hardware, sure.

Update

The new M1XRFEG install was painless and the existing wireless information was not lost. All works as expected.

Firmware 5.3.8 works well thus far - as others have encountered, the panel needs to be reloaded / forgets previous programming. This occurred on one panel which was upgraded from 5.3.0 and a second panel which was upgraded from 5.1.20.
