elk m1 bypassing a zone with a 12v trigger?

i would like to bypass a glass break detector in my media room when the projector or my receiver is on (they both have 12v trigger outputs) the alarm is triggered all the time by sounds in the room.

i am tired of having to remember to do it.

is this something that can be done with an elk 924 perhaps?

This should be pretty easy... two ways; either wire the existing glass-break detector inline with a relay that can close the zone upon the 12V signal, or use the 12V signal to trigger a zone and use rules to auto-bypass the glass-break.

Does the 12V trigger stay active or just send a signal for a couple seconds? I don't think you'd be able to just use a relay inline with the detector because if the system is armed and then you open the relay to the detector that should trigger the alarm - the zone just went from short to open. I'd look to use either the 12V trigger or a 12V power supply on one of the switched receptacles on the receiver and use rules to bypass the glassbreak while the receiver is active.

He could just wire the relay in parallel with the glass break if its normally closed

No, it would be in series so the relay could control the state of the glassbreak. And that would only work if the relay was activated before the alarm was armed.

Is there a reason why the glass break zone definition can't be Burglar Interior? It would be inactive when using the Armed Stay mode.

If the glassbreak is in an area where a motion detector would not be active during a stay mode (assuming a motion is even there to begin with) then the glassbreak may be the only thing to provide protection if the door/window is never opened and only the glass is smashed. If the homeowner sleeps 1 or 2 stories above, they may never hear it break.

With that said, I'm in a ranch with all bedrooms occupied and I use burglar interior. Although, I've been rethinking that, especially for after I'm done watching TV... as it's the same issue as the OP. My sub will set it off.
