ELK-RMS FUTURE

Just loaded RMS on my TS07's and looks great. There are a few things I hope we will see in the future. The audio section lost the ability to view and control individual song selection on the playlist for the Russound CAM in the ipod or music server. And I still am waiting for the ability to control the system from a handheld remote such as the Pronto, RCI or Universal. I am a Custom Integrator and one of the things that force me to install the HAI to some of my customers is if they want the unit to be controlled by a single handheld controller, the HAI has that covered. We do install Both HAI and ELK and they both have their positive and negative qualities. But for the most part they are both great products. Since RMS was released the Elk's touchscreen look and organization of lighting , tasks, and links (imho) are very easy to control and look good. The Touchscreen look is also better being a widescreen unit. HAI was going to release a bigger inwall touchscreen but it was cancelled. Most of my customers prefer a bigger screen with a more streamlined look. I know HAI is coming out with a new 5.7e touchscreen but it is still small. If ELK would get to work with a remote company on getting some kind of module control I think they would be move ahead. In todays technology race whoever offers more wins. If anyone has heard of any plans. info on that would be helpful
Thanks...

Really, I haven't seen that device before, but a quick Google search show that people are not very excited about it. A slow CPU, only 128 mb RAM and Windows CE makes this device very outdated before it even hits the shelves. That may be one reason why nothing has been released since it was annouced over 5 mo ago.

Of course if it is released with a competitive price advantage, then that would be another story. But if it is priced near what other competitors offer, it simply won't be worth the money.

In the context of someone looking at a netbook device then yes its slow - in the context of a home control pad (running CE to support RMS), then I think its ideal - Homeseer seem to think so

It only went through FCC approval in Dec, so hopefully will have general availability soon

RMS CE is base requirement for me as I dont want full fat OS boots (even XPe) whenever I want to set the alarm in the house. Will probably also use touchscreen phone (eg HTC) but dont want to be limited to 3.5" screen for general use.
