Elk RP and windows 7 64 bit

Hi,

Just got a new machine and went to Elk to install RP. The current RP is not compatable with 64 bit . Does anybody know a way around this? Or do I have to wait for a new version of RP(when?). I can wait as my old machine is still going, but I want to phase it out asap.

I installed ElkRP within "Windows XP Mode" on Windows 7 64-bit and have had no issues.

Any chance you could give us some basic instructions on how to do that? Might make things a little easier than searching around online. I just recently bought a laptop to bring with me to job sites before realizing that I won't be able to use RP with it. >

I'm running 1.6.26 here and don't recall having to do anything funny to install on Windows 7 64-bit...

Windows XP Mode is a separate instance of Windows XP that runs within Windows 7 using virtualization (supported by most modern processors less than ~2 years old). It is not installed by default, so additional files will be need to be downloaded from Microsoft. You will need an XP CD Key if you are not running the Ultimate version of Windows 7. Once installed, you essentially start Windows XP from your Windows 7 start menu and you will be presented with a separate Windows XP desktop from where you can install ElkRP. Once installed, the ElkRP application can be launched and will run like any other application installed within Windows 7 and the Windows XP part will run in the background.

I just did a new Win 7 64-bit install the other day and 1.6.26 installs and operates just fine. I believe there's a problem with the new version of RP with 64-bit systems.

I do tend to tinker with some weird stuff and also run Win7 x64. The XP mode works most of the time, but I've found it doesn't always work with old device drivers. The ELK issue seems to be fixed with the update, but for anyone running other legacy devices, consider trying VMWARE on their pc with it's own install of XP. I use this mostly with my minidisc players, which are no longer developed for.
