Getting Elk to report out using NextAlarm ABN Broadband adapter

I think so, but let me tell you what I mean to mitigate further IVB idiocy: Hook your ABN into your network via a regular RJ45, and plug it into the Elk at the tip/ring connections with a regular RJ11 wire.

Okay. So now it is reported OUT to nextalarm...

However, I cannot call into it via the abn network. I get a busy signal.

Any ideas on that?

Sorry, work got busy again for me yesterday.

No idea here, I didn't even know you could do that. Is that from an external location, ie work?

Yes. Log onto nextalarm, and click on the "ABN Information" link on the left.

It gives you the phone number to call and the account number and PIN (you set this yourself) to use.

Then when you call into their switch, they connect you inbound to your ABN where it rings and your Elk is supposed to answer.

Mine doesn't answer....

And I cannot figure out how to get it to.

sounds like a question for NextAlarm since it is their hardware and their service. Is it always busy? have you rebooted the ABN?

What can you do over the phone? Anything, or just check status of zones?

My understanding is that you can do anything over the ABN that you can with a regular phone line (you can also access the M1 from internal phones for status/control). The advantage for incoming calls is that the ABN gives you a "dedicated" security phone number, so you don't have to do any double calling or interfere with answering machines, etc. You can also dial in silently for access to the Elk listen in hardware/feature. I don't have an ABN and only learned of this feature here recently myself.
