Good networked color cam w/ nightvision ?

We support Acti now on the Iphone as well as the other phone types. they just lent us an 8511N. just straight mjpg right now. looking into the ptz controls this week. Axis has been supported since we started along with 30+ other manufacturers. We did a presentation at Axis HQ a couple of weeks ago. They have some new interesting things coming soon also.

Thats good to know, I was actually holding off on getting some Acti's for home until an iPhone app supported them.

I like Axis but IMO they just charge too much when you look at what your money buys with Acti plus axis has few IP66 rated outdoors and none with IR illuminators. They are really good for well lit interior setups though.

If your are going to get a day/night camera make sure it has a mechanical IR/cut filter otherwise color will be horrible in the day, Acti's outdoor have them.

The Acti is new and is something we have been working with directly with Acti support overseas to support. please post the models you are considering ahead of time so i can confirm with our contacts if it will be compatible. obviously if it is an 8511N then we support it but for other models let me just check 1st if you can post it.

When you say you support the iPhone... does this include Audio & Video?

mjpg is basically a series of jpg pictures send successively. no audio in jpg pictures.

we do support audio on mpg4/h264 streams in blackberry version. tradeoff is we don't support authentication on those codecs yet so you have to have the cam open. if you have a blackberry there is a free demo to try on the website and PM me for an example mpg4 stream to test.

apple does not allow rtsp streaming at this time so mpg4/h264 is out. even for the mjpg it was a nightmare to get it on the store. they wanted to limit the time on cellular and we had to work with them for months to get around this and allow indefinite streaming on cellular. most other vidcam apps on the store stop at about 2 minutes on cellular if you try them.

You can thank our friends at AT&T for that one. Not only do they impose a 5GB limit on your "unlimited" download plan, they also impose these rules. But iPhone exclusivity is ending in 2010, and Apple is increasingly getting frustrated with them.

yes but by then Android will have some serious competition for the iphone. let the phone wars begin. Apple is slacking now with the 3GS, Android is getting some good UI's. Creative is even selling dev OEM Android Itouch now. Google claims 18 or so Android devices released by the end of this year alone. 2010 may be the year of the Android. and then 2011 we will see Microsoft finally put out whatever their best shot is. And of course it is hard to touch Blackberry on the corporate front. we'll see how that plays out over time. there needs to be much more than exchange support to overtake RIM in the corporate market.

My neighbors had a low cost audio/video baby monitor as pictured above and it worked well two houses down. We would sit at night and the reception wasn't bad at all. Just a little noisy. When my son was young (80's) I used a sound only monitor and it did come into play one day. He typically slept thru anything. I was in FL and having a new roof put on the house. A lot of hammering etc. I was sitting in the pool area of the home about 150 feet from the bedroom in which he was sleeping. I heard a crash in his room. I ran to the bedroom and found the ceiling fan had "fell" from the ceiling onto his crib with the vanes blocking the fall of the fan main unit and hitting his head. He slept thru this and never woke up. Historically I have used Axis cameras and they work well. I also remember at the time being able to modify the "web" server some for my own use. I also have used Panasonic IP cams but have never modified the web server stuff on them.

BTW I have always used MS mobile CE for my PDA phones (HTC) and have used them with GPRS for many years and most recently with 3G (streaming video from my Zoneminder server just fine). IPhone is pretty new now versus the seasoned Mobile CE. Never wanted to use BB as to me it was more for email tethering than for anything else. IE: My brother-in-law is constantly answering his emails on his BB. BB though has become the standard for employee tethering (tethering=answering emails 24/7). I use my HTC phone as a fallback to the internet when needed for my laptop.

It peeves me that Apple left our RTSP... Windows Mobile has this function built-in and does not require anything special and has for a long time. I can stream my camera to my Windows Mobile phone just fine with the software it comes with.

Apple does not support RTSP but the audio stream is from my camera is PCM (as are many) so maybe you'd be able to pull it out separate from the MJPEG stream?

There are many iPhone/iPod apps that do video only and they are very cheap ($5-$10) and work very well. Considering you all use the same Apple SDK - thus the same methods, I'm interested in what would show a cost justification of 5x to 10x the cost of the other apps? I'm not trying to be confrontational, just curious as to if I'm missing something... I figured you had audio and that was the differentiation justifying the cost but it is not.

thx

I found the TV-IP422W on Amazon.com for $203.99. Camelcamelcamel.com shows this is the lowest price it has been since they have started tracking it.

At a glance, it seems to provide your needs and wants, except zoom, plus two-way audio. I don't own it nor researched it further than the description.

This looks suspiciously like the Airlink101 777 or 747 camera (I have 4 of the 777 model). Perhaps they are OEM'ing it. I'm trying to get command list information on the Airlink cameras and starting to discover they simply don't have it or won't give it out. Still talking to their tech support, but so far I just get short "no" answers from them.

Streamer was just released by ZodTTD today on the App store, it supports rtsp with audio (it is based on VLC). I can confirm it is work with a Y-cam, which after doing some research is probably the best IP baby cam right now, as it has a mic and IR.
