I was just reading that article as well. I use LogMeIn, I have it on all my machines, great service for sure. I am a little disappointed with the outcome of it, but good story.

me too. i'm not sure why he didn't get the rest of his stuff back either. he couldn't prove they were his?

Probably not. How many of us really keep a record of all the serial numbers of hardware we own? He would have to prove that the equipment was owned by him. It could also be that the theif sold some of the stuff too.

they found some of his stuff, but they won't give it back to him. "No one will be arrested, and I won't get any of my other items that were recovered, "

i've found that taking pictures of the serial numbers is more convenient than writing them down. i just store copies of the pics in a few safe places.

i started doing the the same thing..but didn't keep up with it...i really shoudl..with a digital camera it's pretty easy.

We do take pics of my wife's jewlery for insurance (no serial numbers on there). Make sure to upload them online somewhere or whatever in case your pc's get stolen or your house burns down.
