In a bind, need pin out for HAI 20 pin connector

Hey Guys,

We are trimming out the alarm Panel (HAI Omni Pro II) with 2 hardwire expanders and (1) 17A00 expander enclosure. My problem is that at rough in, we sent 16 too many of the contact wires back to the box that houses the hardwire expander. (they should have been routed to the main enclosure with the OPII)

What I would like to do without having to purchase another 17A00 (too expensive and I already have the Hardwire expander 10A06) is extend the "supplied 20 pin connector" via cat5 from the main panel to my Aux panel. My guess is that all 20 of the pinouts aren't needed.

Does anyone know which pins carry power and com? And am I missing any reason why this wouldn't be a good idea.

I've only read about extending the ribbon cable 12" or so but am not aware of the pin outs. I guess you "could" cut a ribbon cable and solder all of them to multiple 22/4's. Might it be easier to pull a set of wires between the two enclosures for the contacts instead of extending the expansion board. That way you can leave the expansion board/ribbon cable as intended. I don't think only four of the 20 pins are utilized on the daughter board connector but not really sure.

I don't think that's a good idea. When I wanted to mount my hardwire expander elsewhere in the can besides piggyback I spoke to HAI and they sort of implied distance is not a good idea. Even at 12" they were like it "should work" but made it sound like even a few feet was not a great idea. I'm with pete on this one, I would put a demarc or just extend your 16 zone wires back to the main panel. Are they 22/4 and/or 22/4? How far is it anyway?

Ok, thanks for the input Guys. My Aux panel is just a few feet away. I think I still may try extending the ribbon connector as I would have 2 of the hardwire expanders and 1 Alc control board stacked in the main enclosure. The door shuts fine with 2 boards stacked, but with the standoff hex screws, three is right agains the door. (why didn't they think about that?):)

I'll splice and solder, then let you know if it worked or not.

If it's only a few feet I would just get a longer ribbon cable. I have a 12" and 18" and they are fine. I used 3M cable like this one, but 18" is the longest they have, but there are other places that have similar cables longer. just think it would be neater and less chance of error with a factory ribbon cable.
