The solution I'm looking into for a decent form of local control (for lamps) is to build the module into it. I remember seeing a project for this a long time ago where you would put a X10 3 way wall switch inside the base of the lamp and then wire a button mounted on the lamp's base or column, hooked up as a slave switch. The idea was to press that button to turn the lamp on and off while maintaining full X10 control too. You also gained local dimming by making the dimming mod too. You would also remove the bulb socket's knob so that no one would turn it off that way. I just might do that with some of the old WS... X10 switches I have lying around.
