iPad/iPhone Z-Wave recommendations

Please forgive me if there is already a thread on this -- I did a search but didn't see anything...

I am new to Z-Wave, and my package of components arrives in a few days. I'm looking for recommendations for the strongest iOS app to control lights, locks, and thermostats (and perhaps other things I haven't thought of yet!).

Currently, my system will connect with the Schlage LiNK bridge device (since it came included with my door lock). I may upgrade to the MiCasa Verde 2 if the Schlage LiNK is not adequate (advice here is appreciated too!).

Looking forward to any suggestions. Thanks!

Check out HomeSeer Pro which comes with HSTouch which has an excellent iPhone/iPad/iTouch app as well as an Android app for controlling all things Z-Wave. Demo here:

hi David,

Welcome to CocoonTech!

I think the Mi Casa Verde Vera 2 is definitely worth a look. I haven't tried the iOS client yet (on my list of things to check before I finish the review), but IMO offers the best bang for the buck. While I personally use HomeSeer in the house, for on the road, I prefer a lightweight client which uses the phone's native GUI, so not sure if HSTouch is a good option. You could probably get away with purchasing the cheaper version of Homeseer, and use the MobiLinc plugin, which gives quick access to your automation via your iOS device, without having to design anything.

Here's a nice light weight client if that's what you're looking for. It supports cover art and mp3 playback too. The interface is purely html and some javascript. It's open source so you can modify it, and best of all the web interface and software (Motorola Premise) are free! Additional interface pics using the activex version (which is much more powerful): http://www.cocoontech.com/wiki/Premise

The neat thing about these web interfaces is they automatically configure based on Premise's main setup! No need to worry about updating the web interface each time you add a sensor.

Here's a pic of the interface I'm playing around with on android (but works on any web-browser):

For Premise you will need a VRC0P or RZC0P secondary zwave controller ($60-$90), but it's still far cheaper than HS Pro (which I think is $599 just for the software?)... You'd also need a primary controller, I prefer the controlthink stick and leviton's free pro software for configuring the zwave network ($20-$40).

Thanks so much everyone! What a wonderful forum this is.

After doing more reading, I decided to pull the trigger on a Mi Casa Verde Vera 2. The Schlage unit seems to be "locked" to their pay service, and I didn't want to have to pay on an ongoing basis.

Looks like my choices for iPhone apps are the Mi Casa app or the SQ Remote app. Is anyone aware of another iOS app that will work with the Vera 2?

HomeSeer works with locks just fine without the service.
