Looking for retrofit solutions

Hi,

How to install and use premise in an existing home (not new construction)? what kinds of lighting, HVAC, security, distributed audio, and camera systems are available that won't require ripping up walls and that work well with premise? which have you used and recommend?

Any suggestions will be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

"No ripping of walls" = wireless and PLC
"works well with Premise" = available Premise drivers

Install Premise and check out its list of supported devices. Additional drivers can be found in the Downloads section of the Premise Home Control forum.

PS
Just about any camera with a web-interface is accessible via Premise browser.

thanks very much for the quick and useful response 123.

I am using premise at two homes. I am really looking for brand (and technology...like how does Z-wave compare with others etc) recommendations for retro fit, based on practical experience. Also I am going to use Premise as the home automation controller, so it will be helpful if the brands recommended also have drivers for Premise.

Whew !! Sorry thats a lot to ask for <_< , but any help here would be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Many ways to approach this problem ... I think you should focus on the desired devices and technologies and then find an HA application that fits your needs. As much as I like Premise, it lacks drivers for current technologies (like zwave) and may not be the best choice for you.

If you're willing to wait a few weeks, I'll be releasing a Premise driver for the ELK M1 security/automation panel. The M1 supports many lighting technologies and the driver will let Premise take advantage of the M1's many strengths.

PS
I believe the good folks at http://www.digital-residence.com do high-end work using Premise and have written a Zwave driver. I don't know if they sell it but feel free to contact them: David Abendschein or Damon Deen. They used to frequent the old Premise forums but I haven't seen them around the new forum yet. They may be around but I don't recognize their new forum names.
