Looking through elk rp and keypad to get confirmation of enrollment of m1xep

So I am running into install errors that lots of others before me have seen and posted about. But everyone just says they've tinkered and fixed instead of the exact solution

So, I am trying to enroll the m1xep by the keypad. Elk button->option 9-> bus module enrollment

I get the error KP Addr-> 1 Lost Comm. No matter if the m1xep is connected or not

So I think I have a termination issue with the keypad.

The manual says "if there is only one data bus home run cable then place surging cap on JP3 of main board"

I am assuming I have one home run since I have only one keypad. So I have JP3 shorted, but still get this error regardless of the m1xep being connected.

What am I missing here? Thanks in advance.

If this helps, I did try to short the J2 jumper on the keypad as well as suggested in another thread, same error.

I am able to connect to the m1xep thru elk rp software, but obviously it says it cannot connect to m1 because it's not enrolled.

I triple checked my wiring, all colors match.

Any other suggestions?

DATA BUS TERMINATION IS VERY IMPORTANT!!
Diagram shows 2 basic (4-wire) home run cables with daisy chained devices on each. Last device on each cable
MUST have a Terminating Jumper installed. Jumpers are marked JP2 on keypads, JP1 on Expanders. Control
Hardware pack has two black jumpers for this purpose. Jumpers engage a 120 Ohm resistor across data A & B lines.
NOTE: If there is only 1 data bus cable, install JP3 Jumper on the Control.

Make sure you have Jp3 on the control and the JP2 on the keypad jumper in place.
Double check all wire connections are tight, and in the right place...

Thanks for the reply mustang,

JP3 on the control is shorted.

JP2 on the keypad has two gold solder spots but no short pins sticking up in order to short the connection.

However, J2, located on the lower back portion of the keypad, has two pins that ate enclosed on a white connector, similar to those on a desktop pc motherboard.

There are two other short pins, but they ate labeled JP1, IN OUT.

Here are my newest findings, the error must be intended. with JP3 shorted on the control I am able to connect the to m1 using elk rp and the m1xep. Previous to my first post I forgot to go to the connection drop down in elk rp and connect using the network button. It connected hot and fast the first time I clicked.

I'm gonna call smart home to get the low down.
