M1G control my Home Theater?

i will keep looking....... i have my front doorbell button hooked up to the ELk and it would be nice to send a IR comand to my TV to bring up my front door cam in PIP when someone presses the button.

ill let you know if i find something.... what is your price range?

How about using on Ocelot with an SECU-16I input module? Does the Ocelot offer the same IR programming features as this unit?

The Ocelot would also be more versatile for other HA programming features.

I think the Ocelot will indeed be much easier, you don't even need the expander unless you have identical hardware around the house.

How much is the Ocelot with SECU-16I input module??? and can it send Macro comands?

You can send a single command to the Ocelot and it can then execute its own macro, complete with any time delays and any conditional logic you may want. It can be connected to the Elk through a serial connection too, or even triggerd by sending it X-10 commands.

An Ocelot is roughly $160 and a SECU16I about $80.

But as I mentioned earlier, the SECU16I is not required unless you want more than 1 zone, the Ocelot supports 1 zone out of the box, and as Guy mentioned, can do a lot of complex stuff. I don't store all my IR codes in the Elk M1, just not enough memory for that, so I just trigger macros using simple ascii messages.

I haven't looked into this, but can you plug the Ocelot into the basic (programming) serial port on the Elk?

240$ for the Ocelot and at most 236.95$ for the Xantech

i like the Xantech better....... it has 16 trigger inputs to trigger up 16 different macro comands..........

so i could setup input one when triggered to mute stereo system, and bring up cam input on the my 3 TV's......... so that would be at least 4 commands.

and input two when triggered to turn off my theater and the 2 other TV's my house about 10 commands

That's what I am doing. I have full IR control using just the Ocelot (since it comes with 1 IR zone from factory), all through the Elk M1.

Very cool. Electron, do you, by any chance, have a tutorial or how-to, or even a good recolection, of how to hook up an ocelot directly to your elk? Can you describe the capabilites and limitations of a setup like that? I know that this is a pretty vague request, but hopefully you know what I mean.

All you need is a spare M1 XSP serial port, and the rest is pretty easy. Check out my original thread for more information:

http://www.cocoontech.com/index.php?showtopic=2602&hl=

You can use ASCII messages to control outputs, IR commands, monitor inputs (so you can have the Ocelot send an update to the M1 when a SECU16 input changes), and whatever else the ascii protocol lets you do.

As for limitations, there were some, but they were minor if I remember correctly.

The Elk M1 and the Ocelot make a killer combination.
