Media Extender Advice Needed

Hello all,

I have a Media PC set up and I am putting all my DVD's on to hard disk so I can stream them to other TV's. All my DVD's are in either ISO or VOB format. I am using Windows Media Center in my home theater and everything works fine. My son gave me a "Media Tank" extender (free) so My daughter can view movies on her TV. The problem I am having is that I can not view movies that are in the VOB format, ISO's work fine, on the Media Tank. When I try to view VOB files, the Media Tank locks up and requires a power cycle to bring it back.

Does anyone know how I can view VOB files using the Media Tank extender without having to change the VOB format to ISO (300 Movies)??

If not I don't have a problem with getting a new extender.

My questions are.

I am looking at the Sage HD200 extender.
Can I use it without the SageTV software?? I will not be using any PVR functions, just need it for streaming video.
Are there any problems with the HD200 that I need to know about?

Is there a better extender other than Sage that I should know about?

Any comments are welcome.

Thanks,
T.

The HD200 can be used w/o Sage in "standalone" mode, double-check on the sage forums about the specific formats. Given that 99% of the world uses .IFO & .VOB files to rip, and sage can playback just fine, i'm optimistic that they didn't do something dumb like not support that.

Plus then CollinR & I can tantalize you into getting on the Sage bandwagon...

The Media Tank definitely supports VOB playback, do you have the latest firmware? With that said, I agree with IVB, simply get the SageTV HD200.
