my whole house wiring project

so, should I terminate the cat5e cable from tv location to the keypad location or should I just terminate it from tv location then to head end location? It's because there are products like from the russound, we can terminate the IR wire to the Russound keypad. However, my proble is, I'm still not sure what products to buy. I just want to make sure that wires will be ok. ;)

Would it be possible for you to re-upload those 3 images in the beginning of this thread using a free service such as filelodge.com so that I can see what I am missing. They are dead to me right now.

I will attach it to the thread instead.

I only have few installations of wires left. Speaker and cat5e in DEN, LOFT and DINING then video in porch. BUT UNFORTUNATELY, I was unfortunate that I wasn't able to take pictures of all the wires I installed when there was no insulation yet. :) FRICK! They installed it yesterday.

Plastic pipe has been used here more and more lately... it is called PEX (either aqua pex for potable water and hepex for heating systems.) I have installed the he pex no glue just 2 solder joints for attaching the fittings to copper at 1 at each end. Then the pipe and holding ring is expanded and placed over the fitting and it srinks back down to size and holds tightly.... Extreamly Quick install. as it was said earlier in the post it can tripple in sizs in a freeze and not split

In some older homes the gray plastic pipe was most likely Polybutylene. It was used extensively from 1978 to 1995. It's not used any more because they fittings could leak and it was found to break down when exposed to the chlorine and other chemicals in municipal water. They say it will most likely leak in 10-15 years. There was even a major class action law suit settle. My house uses copper with some poly in the walls connecting to fixtures. The house is 16 years old. I have my fingers crossed...

I guess my point is copper has been proven past the test of time. Even if PEX has been used since the 70's its no guarantee it is problem free, but then again, that can apply to almost anything...

Here is an update. Yesterday, I was able to put speaker and cat5e cables in the DINING and LOFT. I was able to put single RG6 and CAT5e in the eaves of my front porch. I was not able to put an 18/4 because I only had 5 ft left. So if I only have RG6 and CAT5e, will I still be ok for security camera? For the back camera, I was unfortunate because they placed a plastic barrier in my second floor ceiling. I was not able to run an RG6 and a cat5e cable to the attic, near the eaves in the corner. :(

This morning at 6am, I went there again to install single cat5e from garage to headend. It will be used for telephone or network. I also tucked some insulations I have removed yesterday.

Finally, I verified all the wires for window contacts. I found out that one window contact got pulled so much. I had to open up the insulation and fix it. :) I took a lot of pictures too and measured the locations of all the wires I have installed. I have also installed 2 mudrings that will be behind the cabinet.

Tonight, I will be opening up some insulation in the DEN because I still don't have wires there. I will be putting 2 speaker wires, 4rg6 and 2 cat5e cables. I will also move the mudring along with the 1 RG6 and 1 cat5e that my builder installed. Guys, I'm very tired.

Here is what I remember that I installed:

1.) Window contacts for all accessible windows
2.) Water sensors in master/kids bath toilet and sink, and washer too in 1st
3.) 5.1 speaker wiring in master bedroom, 4 RG6, 2 CAT5e for audio/video in masterbedroom. The Latter is for future proofing
4.) 3 cat5e, 1 18/4 near doorway of masterbedroom. It will be for ELK keypad, music keypad and IR
5.) motion sensors in 1st/2nd floor
6.) Elk speaker/siren wire (18/4) in 1st/2nd floor
7.) 5.1 speaker wiring in family room, 4 RG6, 2 CAT5e for audio/video in family room. The Latter is for future proofing.
8.) 3 cat5e, 1 18/4 near hallway of family room. It will be for ELK keypad, music keypad and IR
9.) 1 22/4 for CO
10.) 3 cat5e in garage, 2 for overhead contact and 1 for phone
11.) 1 rg6 and 1 cat5e for camera in front porch

I didn't have enough time to install smoke and heat. I'm hoping that there are ways to integrate the smoke that they're going to install with Elk system.

And yes, you guys are right, I couldn't believe that I installed that much wires in 6 days. :D

By the way, can you guys recommend a picture storage?

Ok folks, I'm back.

There were long time issues that were fixed last week by my builder including the major front main door issue. Finally, they wacked out the old door and replace it with a new one with sidelights. Woohoo!!! It looks better now. Anyways, I have a very strong feeling that this week(could be tomorrow), sidings for the front main door and also for the eaves will be installed. If you look at the picture below, I have 2 wires there(CAT5E and RG6QS) for the camera. The wire will actually be hidden once the ceiling is installed in the front door roof.

So, how far from door wall (in inches) should I tell the builder to make a hole in the ceiling for the 2 wires? And is 3/8" hole enough for both wires?

EDIT:

I found an old picture which shows a a clearer picture of the 2 wires. It's also has the old door. B)

I haven't put my porch camera in yet but I would assume you want to keep the porch light out of the field of view. I would think the light should be well above or behind the camera?
