Naming a zone on an HAI-Omni

I have an HAI-Omni security system. About 12 years old. I am trying to add a new zone for a water sensor to my ice maker. I have two questions, and sorry I'm kinda a novice here, but I cannot figure out how to "name" this particular zone. Can I do it from the key-pad?

Second, if I want this sensor to be active all the time, (not just when the system is armed), what code do I select?

Thanks in advance.

I guess I will take a crack at this since nobody more knowledgeable in HAI has so far.

First, I would highly suggest that if you will be configuring/maintaining/etc the system, that you get a copy of PC Access. There are 2 versions, Dealer and End User. I'm pretty sure the End User version will allow you to changes zones and stuff. It may not allow you to change things like the dialer. You'd have to check with HAI or a dealer to be sure (if I find a comparison list I will edit this). So that would be your best and easiest way to do this. I'm not sure how to do it via the keypad. Also, you may need your installers code to get into the programming.

As far as zones, the naming is easy, at least in PC Access. As far as type, it depends on how you want it handled. Generally you would setup a water sensor as a 'water' zone and it will be armed 24/7. Upon tripping it will beep the keypad (not siren) and dial out if monitored. Alternatively, you can set it up as an 'Auxiliary' zone and you will have to write the programming (with PC Access) on what to do when it trips.

Powercat - Is your system managed by your alarm company? Do you have access to make changes to your panel?

What specific panel do you have?

If you do not then ask your alarm company to make the changes.

I currently utilize PCAccess (Dealer version) for my panel. I would suggest making it an AUX zone (as above).

Here are some quickie pictures -

I have used the console to make changes but it is a PITA.

From the Owners manual:

Thanks Steve and Petec. No I don't have the PC Access software and I realize this would be infinitely simpler if I did. I just thought this was a simple addition so I would use the more manual method. The list of codes in the appendix is exactly what I was looking for. I expected to find this in the installation manual, which I had gone completely through. Did not look through the owners manual thoroughly. I think the "water zone" setup may work as long as it dials-out and the monitoring company alerts me if I'm away. I will probably try this first and switch to axillary if need be. Yes, I do have the installers master code and I have an original Omni board with Omni keypads.

Stay tuned... I may have more questions, but thanks for the replies :(

Powercat - there's a Cocoontech HAI Subforum that may get more traffic from HAI-minded users, for your next question.

To use PC Access, I think you'll need a serial port/connection on a PC (and of course a cable).

If you're considering the purchase of PC Access software, ask a distributor or HAI rep what the specific limitations are of the 'End User' version (vs. Dealer). It may not let you add sensors.

Thanks Steve and Pete.

One other thing - with an old control/panel, I'm unsure if PC Access can be used. Probably, but you may want to check before shelling out $50/$150.

Actually it connects great via the network/ethernet. Worst case I believe the old version of PC Access will work but yea, check with HAI or dealer to be sure of right version and capability.

I'm probably reading this wrong, but if a dealer installs the system will I be dependent on them for adding new sensors or will I be able to do it myself?
