Need advice on wall toucscreen

I have an in-wall planar 15 inch touch screen that is going bad on me. What is a good affordable touch screen that I can replace it with?

I am going to take it out of the enclosure that it comes in and mount it in the existing opening.

It would have to be serial connection because the monitor is about 50' from the pc.

I would also prefer the power supply not to be on the monitor. I would rather not have the 120v power wire behind the wall. With the search that I did, it seems that they are all going towards the power supplies in the monitor. If I end up with one of those maybe I can remove the power supply from the monitor and move it.

These are fairly well priced. I put one in about a year ago and it is still working fine.

You will just have to build a bezel for open frame version

Interesting web site ... when I click on the 'buy now' button I get a form with a hotmail address and a text box I can enter the price into. I wonder how many they'll ship at $1 each?

I was looking around and came up with this one

It is a little on the pricey side, but it looks like it has everything I was looking for. The powersupply is in a remote location and has a serial connection.
It also looks like it has a smaller frame around the screen than the planar that I curently have. I might be able to use a smaller frame around it.

Has anyone used this monitor?

What is the best touch technology to use between these three: Elo’s IntelliTouch, AccuTouch or surface capacitive touch

I have a 1547 with Intellitouch. I prefer that as it is a solid glass panel, no plasticy type coating on the screen. I have to say tho that I prefer the panel that takes AC in, not a brick. A brick in the wall is more dangerous cause it can overheat, etc. Here is a link in case you never saw my panel.

I run 12v DC to mine from the wiring closet, why would anyone want to put a power supply brick in the wall?

I agree I would not put the brick in the wall. I run the 12v wire down to the wiring closet and put the brick there.

Steve I have seen your panel and you have done a great job on the frame and install.
I agree I think I would like the intellitouch better because of the glass panel .
Have you used both to compare the response to the touch?

Yea, I actually have the other ELO panel as well. I got a few at the time for spares, etc. I do not use the other on a regular basis but I did play with both of them when I decided to put the Intellitouch in the wall.

Wow Steve, that looks great! I forgot - are you running CQC? Have any pictures of your automation interface running on the touch panel?

Thanks. Yes, I run CQC. Pics are on same site in a different album - here. Those are my original screens when I first started using CQC but admittedly I have not updated them yet.

Not sure if this would be the right thread, but where did you guys get those brackets to mount the panels in the wall? I just picked up a 15" ELO and want to mount it.

If you are referring to mine, the panel came with it. But if I had to do it all over again, I would not make the hole in the real wall and not use that bracket. You HAVE to have access to the rear to use those brackets.
