Need advice on wall toucscreen

I've seen people make some sort of frame out of stud material and attach the TS to that. I guess it would depend on your wall and what you have now. The best imho is one that has a backbox for wall mounting, lind of like the box for a Elk KP2.

Not sure if this would be the right thread, but where did you guys get those brackets to mount the panels in the wall? I just picked up a 15" ELO and want to mount it.

There are different ways of mounting them.

I have installed planar monitors that were not open frame units. I took them apart and made a frame behind the monitors were I screwed them to. The tricky part is making a frame for it, if you dont have access to the back. You need to be able to remove the frame to service the unit.

Here is another way of installing an in-wall monitor. This one is from MikeW from the charmedquark forum. He is using the monitor I am planing on buyng the elo 1537l.

He uses velcro to secure the frame to the monitor.
I might end up using his idea, I like the look of the thin frame that he made. The velcro should have no problem holding up the frame especially with the wood blocks that he uses. The frame being that thin I would probably spray it the same color as the wall so it will blend in.

So it seems like running just a screen is much cheaper than a full in wall touchscreen PC.

Could i run the touchscreen as a 2nd screen of my server in the basement? I guess CQC runs 'full screen', not sure how all that woudl interact if you say had eventghost and itunes running in the background as well.

If connected this from the basement i would probably use VGA or DVI. Can either one of these be field terminating? If not i'd need a much larger 'hole'....

Am considering just having the building put in a 2" conduit in the location where i plan to have this screen later. 2" should be big enough for DVI.

Would a touchscreen PC be much more power efficent then a touch screen with a separate PC?

If you let a touchscreen PC or regular touchscreen with remote PC go to standby or hibernation, do they wake up when you touch the screen? I am getting pretty power concious and don't like the idea of another PC running 24/7.

I am not familiar with CQC, I use the mainlobby software and I can tell you how I did it.

To the touchscreens I run 1 cat5e shielded cable for the vga with balun to extend the vag, 1 cat5 for the serial cable for the touchscreen and a 16gauge 2 wire for the 12 v for the power with the brick in the wiring closet.

I use a matrox g200 card on the pc that has 4 vga outputs, one for each touch screen. On the software side I extend the desktop to all the monitors and I run multiple instances of mainlobby for each monitor.

As far as stanby you can have the pc go in stanby but it will effect all the touchscreens.

I just finished the install on the touchscreen. I ended up using the ELO 1537l panel.

I used Mikew install idea on using velcro to mount the frame.

Looks great! Which baluns did you use? Do they require an external power supply?

I am using a ELO SAW which works great, except in wet areas (kitchen / bar / bathroom) as a drop of water on the screen freaks it out.

Also, is that the MainLobby iTunes interface that you customized or is that DVDLobby 3.75 that you customized? Can't see if that's music or movie covers. either way, looks great with the decor.

Dan thanks. The balums that I used are made by Muxlab. They dont need a powersupply.

David the panel that I just installed has the ELO SAW.
I have not gotten it wet yet, but I like it much better than the resistive. Being all glass it has a better feel to it, and also is a crisper picture.

The picture with the panel install is with the MLItunes plugin. I have most of my scenes on that same webpage including the dvdLobby ones.
